The thing I think is the most irreconcilable, incompromisable, consistently demonstrated behavior of The Right in America is the blatant hypocrisy about nearly all of their planks. It's the thing that, when the next civil war comes, will allow me to pull the trigger on anyone wearing a red baseball cap with little remorse.

• Everyone needs guns to defend themselves from The State, because 2A! (Except for black people defending themselves from no-knock entry cops who got the address wrong)
• The government shouldn't be allowed to tell us how to live! (Except for LGBTQ* people, women's choices about their own bodies, or homeless people)
• The Constitution is sacrosanct! (Except for the part about separation of church and state, we just ignore that part)

It's the same for their every. Single. Position. It makes me weary, and furious, depressed and pessimistic.

For real life example, just look at Alex Jones. How long it took for him to even go to court, and how he's still not in jail or paying any judgements.

This was abundantly clear to everyone on January 6th. It was so blatant that, at the time, most conservatives claimed the entire event was actually undercover BLM and "Antifa".

Then the convictions showed it truly was all Trump supporters, and now none of them are talking about it.

They don't even realize that that's not how appeals work. It's not just "the appellate court says acquittal," there needs to A) have been a failure in the legal process which B) would have been impactful on the jury's verdict during the first trial for an appeal to be successful. Appellate courts only address the legal process. An appellate court would only get into addressing the facts of the case if there was an absolutely glaring smoking gun to point to some evidence or testimony having been false.

You know, like Allen Weisselberg does when he testifies.

Even if an appellate court was to side with Trump's appeal, that just means it goes back to the lower court to be tried again, unless the DA goes "yeah, forget it."

My favorite is the ones crying about how America has fallen into nazism because... Trump got convicted of a crime with overwhelming evidence of it.

And its especially funny considering how down with nazism they have been until its conversationally convenient to suddenly cry about the evil nazi persecution.

Trump must be published for his crimes. If he is not, then America and the entire world is at risk of destabilizatiom.

Umm, I hate this comment because it’s basically assuming there will be some kind of armed conflict between normal people. I don’t think it’s necessarily going to happen, and we shouldn’t stoke the flames for it. What’s better than saying inane comments like “get a gun” is to reduce voter apathy and hopelessness, educate people on their voting choices, and get them registered to vote.

Social media has a tendency to heighten emotions, and there are many, many state actors who abuse that fact. I squarely lay any blame for Rittenhouse, Charlottesville car ramming victim, and Jan 6th on social media spread disinformation and incitement. Don’t believe everything you read about “supporters of [insert ideological enemy]”.

That said, access to guns is a right for Americans and there’s nothing wrong with knowing self defense. But know that proper gun training and discipline is not scaling with gun ownership. So people are basically creating unsafe environments and situations for their families and others. Don’t do this, don’t be stupid. If you get a gun for any reason (sports or defense), learn safety!

Overall, it’s important to get more progressives in congress and other places of power and authority. Not advocate for armed conflict

I own several guns. I used to have a concealed carry permit because I traveled alone for work with expensive items. I let it lapse after I changed jobs. After sandy hook, I considered getting rid of all of my firearms because American gun culture started to disgust me. I mainly shoot air guns for plinking now. Haven't shot a firearm in years.

Now that maga has become such a presence, I'm considering getting a carry permit again. Gun culture still sucks. But, we can't let the crazies be the only ones who are armed.
