Just want to give a shoutout to decadentrebel for their recommendation on where to have headphones repaired. Looks like I'll be able to use my wireless headphones again after its battery bloated. I'll have to make sure I charge these more carefully next time.

This is the lemm.ee admin's response when asked about the vulnerability used to attack lemmy.world and lemmy.blahaj.zone:
Hey folks! I have spent this morning helping lemmy.world mitigate the issue. I have also sent out mitigation instructions to other admins as well.
For the particular exploit that was used on lemmy.world:
It does not spread through federation
lemm.ee was not vulnerable in the first place
As mentioned above, it has already been mitigated on lemmy.world
So there should not be any reason to defederate [from lemmy.world]. I will continue monitoring and investigating, if further vulnerabilities pop up then I will adjust accordingly.
- Judging from the github ticket, it seems like it's a vulnerability on all lemmy instances. But the attack can only happen on instances where the markdown editor has generated the sidebar etc with vulnerable HTML code. The devs still needs to patch the vulnerability to ensure it won't happen again.
  
  Admittedly, this stuff is way over my head, but given the quick action I've seen thus far, I'm hopeful that it won't be long before this vulnerability would be patched.
- Shame lemm.ee wasn't around when I first propped up the community. It was literally just the big three (ml, grad, beehaw) and world was barely a week old but I had faith in their background. One hopes this is just a minor blip in their radar.

  Events like this make me more and more convinced that communities are better off dispersed among different instances, perhaps a bunch of related communities being bundled together in a themed/geographical instance. However, it's unfortunate that events like this also highlights the importance of knowledgeable and competent instance admins (on top of other technical requirements for running an instance, as well as the legal responsibilities of the choice of hosting location), thus establishing an instance, and administrating it is a heavy responsibility.

  Made the mistake of logging in despite knowing it was compromised, and it didn't sign me in. Changed my passwords after just to be sure.

Na-compromise pala account ng isang admin. Buti mga minor defacement lang ginagawa and not some big time malicious stuff.

  I've since transitioned to Zero versions of the drink and Rite and lite. Hinahanap hanap talaga ng dila ko ung sweetness ng soda. It has been a very long process (years), but the guilt is there, I've just learned not to listen to it lmao.
- Junk food. Kada labas ko ng bahay, for whatever reason, I pass by the local grocery or convenience store to buy junk food.

New post by lemmy.world regarding defederating from Threads. Seems to be authentic, I doubt the hacker is that eloquent.
- GIven what I know of the timeline of the attacks so far, this seems legit. It also is consistent with the overall tone and content of the post they've made earlier.
  I am still disappointed about their response, especially this part:
  Embrace, extend, and extinguish (EEE) - We don’t think they can. If anyone can explain how they technically would, please let us know. Even if Meta forks Lemmy and gets rid of the original software, Lemmy will survive.
  That seems like a wilful attempt at not addressing this issue. They just don't think it will happen, no justification, and then throwing the burden of providing justification to the other side. It also sidesteps the glaring issue that EEE is not something that is solely technical (standards, etc.). For example what is going to stop Meta from just forcing their way into changing the standards to their own will, justified that they have the biggest share of the Fediverse by number of users?
  Besides, no amount of "you don't understand xyz" ever would allay people's fears. People, rightly, are fearful of Facebook, aka Meta. What's their answer to that fear? Telling that people have nothing to fear about? How about telling people why it is nothing to be fearful of?

To those having problems logging on sa lemmy.world, mukhang oks na. Clear niyo muna cookies ulit (specifically for lemmy.world), then try signing in again. Sa akin okay na, even when opening links.

  Good move on their part, tbh. Habang di pa resolved yung situation it's prudent that instances be put offline muna. From one of the comments in this thread have said:

  It may well be that the lemmy.world admin account was compromised as a result of the hack, rather than to make it happen.
  Apparently Memmy is immune to this, not sure about other apps. Someone else advised staying loggged out, and maybe be prepared to change your password after it's resolved.

- It's a quirk of federation. You can only access and interact with you instance's local copy of a post from another instance. You won't see updates from other instances until the data has synchronized.

Spent most of the weekend just playing Divinity Original Sin 2. I played the first game but got bored with it at some point. I don't even remember much about the story. The sequel on the other hand felt more engaging and having an option to start with pre-made character is actually a plus. I can see why there's excitement over the developer (Larian Studios) working on Baldur's Gate 3.
- I started up a new play though of Divinity 2 also. I'm playing Beast. Never played his story before.
  I'm looking forward to Baldur's Gate 3 also. Larian really knows how to make a great game.

Say what you want about the lifestyle and the man, but damn he sure is charismatic. Also nice to hear that he's gone legit (owns a business), and the fact that his former girls help him (according to him) says quite a lot. I've heard that pimps are really charismatic, and I do tend to agree.
