Since the Hamas-led October 7 attack, Israeli authorities have conducted a major crackdown on freedom of expression, usually in relation to social media posts. Dozens of Palestinian citizens of Israel and residents of Jerusalem have been arrested for voicing opposition to the war, while Israel’s academic institutions have suspended and dismissed students and faculty members alike for similar offenses. The Knesset also voted to amend Israel’s Counterterrorism Law, enabling unprecedented surveillance against Palestinians.
Jailing people for speaking out against the war? Sounds like Russia. I think Genocide Joe has backed the wrong side in the conflict.
It would be pretty difficult to do that considering the US government has been giving Israel billions a year in aid a long time before Joe Biden was President, and the vast majority of other US politicians support Israel as well. But sure, blame it on Biden I guess, maybe we can elect Trump, who will probably be asking his staff "why can't we just kill all the Palestinians with the nuclear?"
There's a lot Biden could have done- and a fair amount that he could simply have not done.
Like, he could not vow unconditional support for genocidal maniacs. but, you know, details are unimportant. That other politicians also support Israel doesn't mean it's inappropriate to call Biden out for that.
The christofascist elite of the US and the zionist Jewish elite are good friends since decades ago, did you really believe the president of the US it's free to do whatever he wants? He have owners and the interests of the owners can't be touched.
If you look at the bottom, you see that Knesset has a Palestinian member who is allowed to talk about this issue. It's not perfect (basic human rights should be in the constitution and absolute) but it is a lot better than how this would go on any of Israel's neighbors.
They are all busy in the story about hamas killing a boy that been reported only by one channel that even other Israeli news didn't verify or reported on.
And israel might be shit at freedom of speech but better than all of Palestine on that front. If you are pointing out two evils, israel is the lesser one lol
Not agreeing on comparing the evils, but there is a true point in that such stories are hard to verify. We should remember that regardless of our stances in the conflict.
While I’m aware this story happened in a different context: Anyone who has a „wrong“ sounding name is invited to try their luck at Tel Aviv Airport. Bonus points if you’re not white. Extra bonus points if solo traveling female. There’s nothing special about this story in a sense that they do these kinds of interrogations every day, including stalking people’s social media & deporting people critical of the Israeli government.
This is a weird story from a weird source. Not saying it isn't true but this is one of those posts that makes me want to know the source a bit better before Believing anything about it
How the fuck is it anyone's business what someone does with their own social media account? Also, what would have happened if she had never even made account there?
