You can’t block Threads users or comments with the Lemmy instance block function, which basically makes the lemmy instance block function practically useless.
Is it possible that this happens because your instance has already defederated from threads?
My instance (mander.xyz) has defederated from them and I too can't block threads. (Fun fact: mander has only defederated from 2 instances, threads.net and burggit.moe)
There are better arguments for not federating with Meta’s Threads, some of which can be found in !fediverse@lemmy.ml. Firstly, Threads isn’t going to be able to restrict speech on other instances, at least not in any direct fashion. And secondly and more importantly, an argument for “freedom of speech” without qualifications is either naive or disingenuous: Paradox of tolerance
Here's a question, forgive my ignorance. Is there a way to determine ownership of an instance beyond the name of the user account that owns it?
What if meta used their massive amounts of data storage to flood the fediverse with meta-owned instances, making it difficult or impossible to determine what they control and what they do not?
