What do you want for Christmas?

I'm thinking of gifting myself a Nintendo Switch and getting my Sister a Kindle.

Nothing. I don't want random junk and I don't want to feel obligated to buy random junk for others.
Same. Homemade baked goods exchange it is for me. Show me your love with chocolate mousse, bro.
This. I gift things to family and friends throughout the year, not necessarily on special dates, but because I saw something they needed/could need.
Buying crap that most probably will end up in the trash is not my thing.
when i ask for Christmas presents its usually please buy me this item specifically and if you dont want to buy that specific thing please tell me ill just get it myself no harm done.
but i nowadays need to know whats gotten and not gotten so i know what i can get myself versus outsource to better off family members.
I decided a few years back to give experiences not things.
The way I do that is with a $100-ish gift card to an airline. This way they can use it to go somewhere and make a memory.
I've kind of stopped caring about the gift-receiving aspect of christmas in recent years. So I mainly look forward to the family Raclette dinner on christmas eve and meeting some old friends who come home for christmas.
I actually hate the whole gift cycle. I have to often seen it become like a competition.
Just a nice easy Christmas and New Year, at home just me and my partner, no responsibilities, no social obligations, cozy pyjamas, playing games and relaxing together and generally living actual real life for a couple weeks instead of the constant treadmill.
Came here to pretty much say this. I don't want stuff, I want to drink hot cocoa and put together puzzles in our PJs.
Apparently our modest Christmas dreams are downvote-worthy to someone. But it sounds pretty perfect to me! :D
Peace
Being able to put the heating on for the days of Christmas would be nice. It is very cold.
I feel you. This is the second winter we’ve only been able to heat one room to at least 18C, and that’s not warm enough for my disabled ass. My electric throw blanket is on 24/7 though and is incredibly efficient - it costs less than 25p a day. I would highly recommend one if you can manage the upfront cost. Also wrist warmers are highly underrated imo - cheap, you can knit/crochet them yourself, your fingers are still free for touch screens and they seem to keep me warmer than just a hat alone. Wishing you more comfortable times ahead, friend.
Reusable hand warmers might be practical for you. They stay warm for hours through a chemical reaction, and you reset it by boiling it.
Not the same as a whole body warm, but better than nothing. Sorry you're having to deal with the cold.
I'm sorry you're going through that. I was there just a couple of months back and found some really good deals on heaters at my local thrift store. I found a plug-in radiator for $7.99 and a couple of small space heaters for about $5 each, which really made a difference.
Getting myself some replacement earbuds (specifically, Pixel Buds Pro). Batteries are toast in my (very) old Sony ones, and I've got a ton of Google store credit, so they're gonna cost me very little.
Socks and booze. But mostly socks.
I always thought the socks at Christmas thing was a meme, but here we both are in need of nicer socks.
Hot buttered rum, a smile in my child’s face, and a warm embrace. What more is there?
To not be alone all of the time
You <3
Peace and quiet. Someone else to clean and remember things. I'm tired of being the most responsible person. I'm not even that responsible, imo, but everyone else is worse.
To move out of state (FL).
Where are you headed?
Anywhere, but there, I would imagine. ha
Not sure yet. I just visited WA. I loved Seattle but it seems like everywhere that’s not Seattle is somewhat neglected. I5 is a piece of shit.
WA was at the top of my list but it is not anymore. I guess I’ll go check out Colorado in a couple of months.
A set of bumper plates
I want to be able to participate at my friend's Christmas party. I am so broke I can't even bring food, no gift for anyone and of course everyone has gifts for eachother. I don't want a gift but I hate to be the "cheap" one.
Sleep.
I'm lucky enough to earn a comfortable wage so I tend to buy things that I want throughout the year.
Many people in my position seem to only want things that unfortunately cannot be gifted. More hours in the day. Less suffering in the world. More time with loved ones. Less global disarray.
:(
"more time with loved ones" is not a wish. It is a choice.
My dead friends and family would beg to differ with that 😅
The implication was that it was to spend more time with loved ones after it's already too late.
I'm thinking of breaking my drug budget and get more drugs than I can afford.
Tis the season after all.
Red Ryder BB Gun
Have all that I could need at the moment but i'd like to take this opportunity to wish others a Merry Christmas
A job in Software Development
I just want to feel for a year, that humans aren't going to be the death of 70% (or more,) of all living things. Including ourselves, in the near future. Most of the people I know live like hyper-ultra kings and queens of olden times. Unthinkable abundance, quick or instant to obtain things, and often, a variety of things all of our great ancestors could only dream of. And yet... People seem to believe that it's not enough to have all of the things they do.
A nap
I would say peace on earth but I will settle for peace around the areas I interact with.
I just want to go ride my motorcycle, and not have to fit shit around everyone else’s shit and the mountain of jobs that need doing around the house (ie, never)
I am a working mom and will tell you - if you don't schedule time for yourself you won't get it. I prioritize sex and exercise into the schedule because if not, life and work will eat every moment. For 2024, schedule in 3 hours every weekend, or an evening or morning but every single week.
Realize that everyone is accommodating everyone else, they aren't doing it to annoy you. You aren't the center of the universe. But that doesn't mean you don't need time to recharge, plan it weekly in 2024 and let the schedule fit around you too. It will.
A quiet brain
Peace of mind, and relaxation. I don't want stuff.
What would bring you peace of mind?
I think I've written 3-4 different comments over the last 15 minutes here, and I don't know what the right thing to answer is, but I loathe to leave you hanging. To put things shortly, and not get too rambly, what little future I can see is shaky, and I hate the song & dance of the holidays. I need some time for R&R, and a change of pace from my daily life.
Thanks for asking.
Stuff.
Those are great choices, OP. I'd like a good cutting board, or a nice bottle of whiskey. By which I mean good tasting not crazy expensive.
We all want peace for Christmas but can't individually bring that about. And probably most of us also want things that are way too big to be reasonable gifts - plenty of impossible things. I know I do, anyway.
Less debt
That's what I want too but it looks like I'm getting the opposite lol
Buying Half Life 2 after getting Half Life for free. And buying a good headphone.
Will try to hopefully replace the electric guitar I had to sell awhile back.
A massage - back, shoulders and neck
Socks, actually. And maybe an extra shaving gel cause this one is about to run out.
I see this answer a shocking amount and I don't get it. Do y'all not just... buy socks? You can buy like 8 pair for $10 and they last a long while...
Unless maybe everyone is talking about like super fancy socks or something?
Yeah, I don't usually visit shops specifically for that. In fact even if I do visit a store that has those items, I usually forget that's even a thing I have to worry about. Dunno, it's just never on my list for some reason.
Leather jacket and gloves for when it's too cold for my denim jacket. A front mudguard for my mountain bike. I realise my comment is less wholesome and/or less depressing than some others. XD
The sweet release of death, preferably while sleeping.
A Steam Deck, but nobody is going to give me that.
One of the only things I could think of that isn't super expensive would be a Dreamcast VMU (or two, only have 1 currently) and a US copy of Chu Chu rocket. Really not much I want that isn't expensive and I definitely ain't asking for expensive shit.
Chu Chu rocket is super fun! Hope you get it
Books that interest me and clothes.
I don't have any long-term desires that come to mind that can translate into Christmas wishes.
I'd wish for a Steam Deck, but what I need more (and will probably buy) is a nice backpack.
A telescope.
Every christmas I feast on rich plum cake... That's all I want from christmas. I'll start buying the cakes after 20th.
The Nikon Z 400mm F4.5s lens
i can dream
This will be the 2nd year I am fully alone. A nice phone call would be good enough.
Nothing really major. I really have everything I need for now. I'd like a house, but Santa can't really build one and bring that on his sleigh, haha.
Honestly, moving back closer to my family, friends, and boyfriend has been the best Christmas gift of all :)
A replacement engine for my celica
Buy the switch if you need that Nintendo game fix, but I would consider a steam deck if not. Much newer hardware and more repairable.
A flipper zero 🤓
A pair of powered speakers, hoping I might get lucky at my local thrift stores.
I've seen some good ones in the past for low prices but wasn't in the market for them until now.
People to be housed, healthy, and happy.
Evil T-shirt I <3 Evil. Second Death is incomparable.
Peace and quiet. And to see people to need food get food. I really don't need anything myself.
