I assumed just German memes but I was always afraid to ask on Reddit. Is there a specific style of humor, or jokes about things only Germans would understand?

It's German me_irl but it also expects you to use akward versions of words where English words are commonly used, especially in the internet world but that makes it very funny.

Bin nicht der Meinung. Unser Titel ist die dt. Übersetzung von me_irl, die Inhalte komplett andere. Die Memes sind häufiger politisch/gesellschaftlicher als persönlicher Natur, und ein Äquivalent zu unserem "nur Deutsch bitte"-Sprachhumor fehlt auf me_irl gänzlich. Die Erfordernis von nur selbst erstellten Inhalten fehlt dort auch.
I find ich_iel is very different from me_irl. Memes on ich_iel are exclusively self-made, predominantly policital/societal in nature rather than personal, and the added fun of the "German-only" language humor is also absent from Me_irl

Well, the humor can be understood only by German-speaking people. Humor mostly understood just by Germans is when it's about German politics, developments in German society, or German regional culture etc. So I don't think the kind of humor is specific to anything German, just the subject.
