  • I was bored/procrastinating on some work.

It's not really an in-depth thing, I just used Lemmy's search capability and took note of the number of responses and the number of deleted responses. I added the number of responses with the number of deleted responses (a negative number for new responses, a positive number for new responses is ignored). I did it for both Lemmy.world and Lemm.ee and took the average. For the smoothed out version, I just took the exponential moving average with the following factors:

    • sampling frequency = 1 day
    • average age (ϰ)= 7 days
    • EMA factor (α) = 1/(ϰ+1) = 0.125

That is, I am trying to smooth the values accounting for weekly variability in activity.

I guess I could have ignored the spike in activity during the Reddit blackout, but it seems that the smoothing took care of that quite well.

EDIT: Replaced chart image with a one that has a black background for legibility for people using light mode.

Enhanced Safe Browsing was only limited to Chrome users, and now Google applied it to Gmail. More "free" products everyone!

  • Twitter threatens to sue Meta after rival app Threads gains traction

Twitter is threatening Meta with a lawsuit after the blockbuster launch of Meta’s new Twitter rival, Threads — in perhaps the clearest sign yet that Twitter views the app as a competitive threat.

On Wednesday, an attorney representing Twitter sent Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg a letter that accused the company of trade secret theft through the hiring of former Twitter employees.

  • Nearly a month ago I requested for my reddit data and I just got the file today. A few notes:

    • It has all my comments since 2011. But a large part of it is unavailable on the actual site if I take a look at my profile.
    • Most of the data is comprised of my comments (around 15000+), posts (almost 200), upvoted/downvoted comments, upvoted/downvoted posts, etc.
    • IPs used to access the site are logged for about the last 3 months or so.
  • Flashback Friday courtesy of an r/PH post:

I forgot that this thing existed and how incredibly useful it was. I used it to track MRT traffic before leaving the office. Duterte apparently re-routed the budget so they had to kill it.

  • UPDATE

So the PSA emailed me a full Google Drive of CSVs, PDFs and some metadata. Holy shit pwede ko nang paglaruan ito

    • Did they just email you out of the blue or were they replying to an email you made?

Edit: ah ok you asked for info pala

  • So katatawag ko lang sa PSA, at ang available lang na public use files from the 2020 Census ay for Form 2 (warning: document will auto-download).

Ano nga ba ang nasa Form 2?

    • Sex
    • Age
    • Birth registration
    • Marital status
    • Religious affiliation
    • Citizenship
    • Ethnicity
    • Functional difficulty (aka disability)
    • Residence of mother at time of one's birth (proxy for birthplace)
    • Residence five years ago (previous census in 2015)
    • Literacy
    • Educational attainment
    • Overseas worker
    • Type of residence building
    • Number of floors
    • Construction materials of building
    • State of repair
    • Year of construction
    • Size of building
    • Tenure status
    • Land ownership
    • Presence of operator in any agricultural activity (kung farmer ba or fisherman etc.)
    • LANGUAGE SPOKEN AT HOME
    • Residence five years from now (2025)

Anyway, kaka-email ko lang din ng data request sa PSA, and hopefully ma-grant kaagad (even if it requires visiting PSA itself like I did in 2017 -- malaki-laki rin ang mga ito)

  • I've been a Spotify subscriber for over a decade now, and realized they removed the "Select All" option for library editing.

  • Moon grids sa ating nakatira na sa bayang Fediverse rito! Ano nang binabalak o kasalukuyang niluluto't hinahanda ninyo para sa hapunan?

  • And I hope the sun shines and it's a beautiful day, but something reminds you, you wish you had stayed; you can plan for a change in weather and time, but I never planned on changing your mind...

  • UPDATE 2:

Opening the "members" file for Nueva Vizcaya gave me 496,546 rows, the same number as the household population. The "households" file for the province has 142,343 rows, one for each household.

This means in 2.3 GB worth of compressed files I've just got 108,667,043 household members + 26,374,653 households = 135,041,696 rows for the entire Philippines what the fuck

Edit: Saka ko muna isipin to masyado haha

Edit 2: Baka may magtanong, there are no personal information here, just a bunch of variables and values
