It’s probably not just catching customers as they pass by shoplifting stuff… it’s likely so the employees themselves will have a harder time lifting stuff.
I'm also worried what someone will do when they realize they've been caught doing something. Some might turn on the person with the camera. At a certain point, you're putting your employees into physical risk

I 100% do not support people shoplifting but they are not the only ones guilty of theft.
