Thanks man. I had to crawl through some filthy comments, I'm pretty sure it was worse than whatever those chumps on Juno Beach during the D-Day Normandy invasion had to endure... You got a medal for me? Let's see what you have.
I was kinda hoping the whole "Reputation" thing could just be deleted so we don't get the karmaremoved problem that plagued Reddit, but now, I guess I can actually upvote someone more than once, so that's a thing!
Hey, okay, that explains it, was looking at my reputation to check and see if this was legit and couldn't get the numbers to match up. I'm not some crazy person counting up 100s of posts, I've only got like 6, pretty quick math.
It feels a little weird to me that we can manually upvote our own comments and posts on kbin.
Reddit would automatically set them at +1 because it’s implied that the author would want to upvote their own contributions, and it’s one less hassle if it’s done automatically.
Alternatively, new posts and comments can start at 0, but then I feel like authors should not be able to upvote their own contributions.
We'll I have a bunch now, so it's fixed as far as I can tell. It'd be nice to just have it hidden though tbh, or we'll just get the same karma farming garbage over here that we had on Reddit.
Damn. I'm finally in the positive.
Not that I care too much about imaginary internet points, but a couple "controversial" (differing opinions) comments on a topic and you looked like a negative karma troll at first glance.
Just checked my profile and... it has to be. I went from -1k-something reputation to 6000+ in the course of today. only way that could've happened is if the upvotes thing is fixed.
It seems like they applied this retroactively as well. I remember my account (this one, from lemmy.world) having four reputation points, and I barely had any activity yesterday. It's now over 900.
Not that I really get to see it unless I really seek it out.
@megane_kun Afaik reputation isn't tracked separately but calculated on the fly with upvotes minus downvotes (and boosts minus downvotes before). That would make it necessarily retroactive.
The bulk of the accounts had either sub-zero or single-digit reputation, which was weird. And it maybe have discouraged people from joining kbin from reddit, where karma was more easy to understand.
