New Steam Controller 2 leaks show the upcoming Triton controller added to SteamOS' backend as development continues.
Please let it be good for replacing a mouse and also halfway affordable!
If it's like the pads on the Steam Deck (and it looks like they are), they are a great replacement for mouse.

What do you have in mind? I think the trackpads are already doing a fine job in situation where speed isn't important like fiddling in menus / GUIs, turn-based games or point & clicks.
Why do you worry about affordability? Valves hardware has always been affordable. I would be very surprised if the controller costs more than $80
Because I'm poor, currently spending a lot on my weight loss/general health improvement project, and already having a great controller for games with regular controller support (Razer Wolverine V3 Pro) makes it harder for me to justify spending a lot on one only for games that would otherwise require a mouse 😁
Well, affordable for the high quality they deliver, but not as competitively priced as some cheaper crap on the market. Yeah you get what you pay for, but you do have to expect to pay premium prices to Valve (for equally premium devices).
With inflation and companies jacking prices up for no reason I would be extremely surprised if the controller came in under $120 USD
Because I live in a country whose goverment is shitting on the economy and where Valve will never sell their hardware themselves so I am stuck with scalpers and resellers, the original steam controller was sold at triple its normal price at best.

Touchpads are hard. Well good touchpads are hard. Especially small ones. Just look at laptops. Besides Apple it took like 20 years for them to get good. And even then they still suck randomly.

Can we talk about the strange website this is posted on? A browser based games publisher has an blog reporting on pc/console games and on some articles there's an embedded browser game that it auto scrolls to??
Could there be a new steam machine after all? Steam Frame AND a new VR headset? Right now it is said the VR set will be called the Steam Frame but I always thought that name to be more suitable for a console.

I did. But the whole year all rumors about a new console were dismissed until now.
If the Steam Controller 2 is what I hope it is to be., I would probably buy 2 right away; one for daily usage, and the other as a collection unit that stays in package. The first controller didn't work for me and certainly was not usable for all cases. But thanks to the Steam Deck, I am confident in the controller successor.
The question is, what do you think would it cost? And what would be your limit? I think it would cost maybe 60 USD or EUR and I would even be ready to pay 90 (but then would buy only one and wait for discount for second unit).

Having a second analog stick is great and all, but I really did like having the track pad in such an accessible location.

I was never really happy with the button/stick/trackpad layout on the original controller. This looks to be more in line with the Steam Deck layout, which I'm pretty happy with. I rarely play games on controller that require the trackpads anyway - I prefer a mouse and keyboard for those, but I might get one of these to replace my aging Xbox 360 controller.
I still use mine access love it but look forward to a new version with improvements in build and design
