What's something you do that is not "age appropriate"?

Sleeping with a cuddly toy. My parter converted me and they're great. Tbh, they actually make a lot of sense as a middleaged person. Now that I'm old and less flexible, I end up with a sore back or shoulder if I don't have proper support when sleeping. And I'd much rather have a big lion buddy than some weird orthopedic pillow or Dutch wife.
Ditto! I'm middle aged and can do wtf I want
Asking strangers for permission to pet their dogs.
Petting strangers' dogs.
I took my dog to a local renaissance fair during one of their dog days, and had a healthy mix of people of all ages asking to pet her. Out of the dozens of people who pet her, only a couple didn't ask. It's always a good idea to ask before petting a stranger's dog.
My ex had a very old dog that hated everyone except her and her parents. He was tiny so she brought him lots of places. People would say the puppy was cute and go in for a pet. The dog drew blood on several occasions.
Agreed, that wasn't my implication. I just didn't know which to leave out. 😅 I like to think the less age-appropriate/more amusing aspect must be coming across a random middle-aged person that asks, wide-eyed and hesitant, "could I pet them?" while you're just out for a walk. But it's not like wouldn't get my grubby hands on the doggo as soon as given permission, that's the goal.
Just turned 50 and still ride a skateboard.
That's fine. It just means that you're rad.
Play video games, according to a lot. Be absolutely enamored by cats? Some people have told me only toddlers like kitties so, what? Confusing.
I have a couple cats, I guess that makes me a toddler then. Does that mean I don’t have to pay rent?
If only. Every person on earth would own a cat! A net gain for cats, probably!
Bold & easy coloring books. People are very judgemental about it since it looks like a children's coloring book, but there's a reason it's in the top selling books lists online. Got some cheap alcohol markers and an audiobook on my headphones and I'm gone for the next few hours.
Can vou recommend any good coloring books? My partner really likes bold ones too, but it's sometimes a challenge to find any that are not themed after a childrens' TV show.
I really like the coco wyo ones and bobbie goods (which unfortunately isn't widely available here). Coco wyo has a lot, also Halloween themes/Christmas. 'girl moments' is popular too, the main character is a young woman instead of animals if your partner identifies as a woman and wants a change of vibe.
Feed pigeons. I am not an old lady, although I sometimes feel like it :' )
Being a friend to pigeons is awesome. They’re the cutest, chillest lil birds and there’s something magical about that bond with them. Ignore the haters! 🐦
They are truly great. It's the sweetest thing when they start cooing and develop some (albeit food-based) trust to come a little closer to you :3
In case anyone who is reading this want's to start feeding pigeons or ducks, please don't use bread since it can cause health issues in birds. Use bird food or frozen (but thawed) peas instead and conduct your own research.
They are an abandoned species. We made them just like dogs, and then abandoned them in the mid 1800s because of a sickness scare that had more to do with fleas than pigeons. We wrote into their instincts to ask us for food, and then just tossed them aside.
I want to vandalize every single sign I see that says that "feeding the pigeons is littering and carrys a $250 fine."
Feed the bird, tuppence a bag,
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag,
Always makes me misty
Drink like I'm still 24.
Lego. I mean, it's perfectly appropriate for all ages, but some people (mostly older folks) still seem to think it's for children only.
Up to age 99, but then you aren't allowed to play with them.
I bought "my niece" a huge lego box with 700 pieces for "when she goes visit me"
Well... Last night I watched the original Care Bears movie, in VR as a Care Bear avatar and would join in on every Care Bear Stare since the avatar had that as a feature.
I am 40 years old.
Eat shrooms and play The Fractured but Whole.
Shrooms are the best way I have found to center myself and relieve stress long term. They almost should be mandatory for government service at the upper echelons.
2CT-7 is how to meet "the universe/ God," and have an ego death, but damn the visuals are fun.
Watch anime I guess, if people still think it’s only for kids and young adults.
I’m with you on this one. It’s almost exclusively what I watch.
Snicker, exist. Almost 70.
This probably isn't out of the ordinary, but I'm not against playing video games that were made for children even though I'm going to turn 30 at the end of the year. I don't always play them but if I try one and it turns out to be good, then I'll play it.
I'm also not against watching shows or movies meant for children either but it's pretty rare that I do.
In spring, I like to find puddles on forest roads and trails and dig small ditches and watch the water flow out.
I also do other kinds of forest infrastructure maintenance - trimming branches on narrow trails, clearing fallen trees, and building small bridges over wet spots. Occasionally, I mark hard-to-see trails by tying orange tape to branches along the way.
Are you elven by chance? I ask as a clearly kender ranger possibly cross classed to druid and wizard. I'm a mess, lol.
I watch animated. Just started Justice League for probably the 20th time.
I don't have a car nor a house and I'm in my 40ies. I've been told multiple times that I'm not a responsible adult as long as I don't have one of these.
You win. Adulthood is a scam
Honestly pretty age appropriate nowadays
Go out dancing.
Ride my bicycle with no hands. I'm told it is undignified for a 45 year old man.
They're just jealous of your balance!
I try to get around by means other than driving myself in a car.
Also, in this thread: cool ideas
Eating gummy bears.
Sugar free gummy bears are great before a colonoscopy. Just only eat 15 or so
The OG ones had olearesin, any sugar alcohol, mostly ethrythiol is known to cause upset stomach. I used to use truvea alot, until I realized I was going to bathroom quite often after eating it as substitute in coffee
I just tried some bougie ones from wf today
I play Animal Crossing.
I'm 46
I don't moderate my emotions and responses very well so the way I act could be seen as slightly immature. Sometimes I get very opinionated on things that don't seem like a big deal.
I enjoy things to the fullest extent and don't let being an "adult" hold me back. I'm still going to enjoy that waterslide.
I am in politics and want to open my own game studio. I am 22 and have been wanting to go into politics when i was 11
Play Beyblade. I'm in my late 30s.
I'm in my late 40s, and have so many Doctor Who toys on desks and shelves.
My spouse is sweetly tolerant of the sheer quantity of TARDISes in our small apartment (which is, alas, not bigger on the inside) and has even gifted me some of them.
How many sonic screwdrivers have you built though? It could always be worse.
I have copius amounts of stuffed animals
oh, that's what... no! no nonono. nope!
I never even got a stuffed animal. What normal childhood stuff did I miss out on? 😭
Am in my early 40s. And yet I do not have my shit together in any meaningful sense. With each passing decade that becomes less and less sexy.
Clean and cook for myself.
Apparently I'm supposed to hire maids and cooks or something.
This isn't ageist. This is classist.
work for low wages
Playing a card game online meant for 10 and below, and don't play in person because it's scalped to hell and it's embarraing
Watch a lot of Antiques Roadshow, documentaries, etc.
Many many toys
According to my spouse: play D&D.
I used to also... I used to. Looking forward to rolling a wizard when I get to the retirement home
my old group would talk about the group nursing home they would need to be in some day to be running games.
The only way your spouse could be correct is if you're still playing 2e and you're under 50.
I feel personally attacked. I occasionally dip back into 2.5E because Pools of Radiance, and Dragons of Winter Night are fun games, I managed to memorize the 2.5E rules by the time I was 13, and I'm currently 45.....
D&D became popular in the eighties. Why should people who played it then start hating it as they get older?
I started playing D&D as a two or three year old kid. Admittedly back then my involvement mas limited. My parent's D&D group called me "the Hobbit Thief," as they would put me to bed, and then I would sneak into the room, and steal dice off the table. Apparently I would then sneak back to my room and hide said dice under my mattress.accordong to my mother, either I was extremely fast, or they didn't notice the missing dice for several months. I had also taught myself to pick locks by that point, but that was to escape the tyranny of being inside, but I digress.
My first character I rolled up was when I was 5 or 6. No I don't remember them, but I bet my dad and mom still have the character sheet.
My parents are now in their late 70s and early 80s. They still play D&D and recommended being a DM to people that think they want kids. Apparently there is a fair bit of overlap in running a fun game, and a functional family.
Wow wholesome. That sounds great haha. I've only been a player, but when my son is a bit older maybe I'll try out being a DM.
Your post really made me smile. Thanks for posting and the good idea of family D&D.
I am a parent, and this tells me I lack the requisite energy and creativity to be a DM. I struggle enough as it is.
