It seems soon because it feels like barely anything came out in terms of exclusives for the PS5. Naughty Dog didn't even come out with anything that wasn't a remake.
Sony spent this entire generation making live service games are were DOA or failed after years of development.
People generally buy Sony consoles for their single player exclusives. It seems like that is not a factor to consider for their next console.
I’m not interested in PS6. I’m more interested in building a Steambox to avoid Windows 11.
The best situation for consumers is for games to come out on as many platforms as possible. Exclusives are cancer. It's awesome to see less and less of them every generation.
Well for me Sony exclusive means Sony produced games, and they've just not released in that department. I'm PC now so its not exclusive for me anyways, but it does matter for console players choosing between Sony or Xbox. And Sony has really under delivered this gen with games from them.
Didn't Microsoft buy up a shitton of studios- killing some of them? I wouldn't consider exclusives a good indicator of health necessarily.
That's been the only selling point of consoles for me. They mostly all come out on the PC now so more an observation of how Sony's releases this gen has been really lackluster compared to previous gens.

Not that the PS5 was a major upgrade to the PS4. Sure it can produce some better graphics, but the UI is such a downgrade.
I'll never understand why they made an option to silence the beep at startup, but they push the boot up and login music through the TV when headphones are connected to a controller. That's so much more annoying and last so much longer when you're trying not to disturb other people in the room.
Nothing is better than the xmb on ps3. I hate the new UIs.
The one thing that the PS5 brings to this generation is blazing fast loading times. PS3 and PS4 games that load often are unbearable.

You can change the default audio device through settings. I set mine to headphones, so it just starts through it, and if I needed to switch, i do it through the menu.

Only 1 less year than the ps4 pro. It's not really that bad. I don't own it, but I don't mind that it exists. If it was cheaper and I had a better tv that took advantage of its features, maybe I would have swapped for it.
And then not release a single game built for or exclusive to it until 2035. Hard pass.
They should release consoles when there's a significant leap in hardware that devs are waiting to take advantage of. The last few console releases have been boring. Don't get me started on not only the lack of games but the lack of new types of games. Too many remakes and remasters demanding high prices.
We've got tons of new types of games that have emerged over the years, but they sprout up at different levels of system requirements. The games that need the new hardware are the ones with the largest development budgets.
I think I've turned my PS5 on maybe 30 times since I got it. They just hasn't been anything released for it that I've been interested in basically it's not been anything released for it.
I bought a 3070 and a pair of 1440 gaming monitors, maybe $1000 total, and I feel like an asshole not having time to play my favorite games.
Mine has seen some use.. but its nowhere near what I was expecting when I bought it. I own it for the exclusives and while I did enjoy them (GT7, Ragnarok, Spider Man 2, Astro Bot, Death Stranding 2), I also think I could have done without them and waited for the eventual PC release. I hope Intergalactic (Naughty Dog) remedies my feeling towards the console, but so far, nothing it's seen has been generation defining.
Most probably skipping consoles after this gen.

sometimes it feels like the world is kinda moving off consoles for being too restrictive. and I wonder if there will be a future where these two companies just keep making consoles to fight each other while not selling any.

I just wonder what customer satisfaction is. You can get a fool to waste their money only so many times. Buyers Remorse was the PS4 for me.

What even happened in this generation? There was nothing that separated it lmao. Realistically the only thing the next gen can add over this is full ray tracing from ground up, even something like frame gen would be proper embarrassing because a console is supposed to have all graphics baked in.
If MS goes Windows on Xbox then that might genuinely be the way forward atp

At this point I‘m going to assume they‘ll both essentially be handheld PCs. It‘s the only device I could even imagine a market for in 2 years.
Man, I was soooo excited about the PS5, but then it turned into such a shit show to get one that I just put my money into my PC and I never even got around to picking one up when availability became more reasonable. I don't think I'd ever really want to get back into the console gaming space anymore.
Although I had the same experience, I was finally able to get one after a few months. I was very happy I got one over building a PC because at the time PC GPUs were ridiculous amounts of money, and I felt the PS5 was a great deal over the PC. I ended up building a new one in 2023 a few months after prices started falling a bit finally and thought it worked out perfectly.
I still use my PS5 more than my PC just because it sits in our main room and has the nicer TV screen. Everything has its use. If anything, I am always disappointed. I built such a nice PC and haven't used it as much as I would have liked by now.

The last time a console generation lined up with a giant economic crisis we got the Kinect and PlayStation Move instead and a proper console release was delayed until 2013.
I could see this being pushed to 2030, easy, if it happens at all.
It will just be a PS5 with a sticker on it and $500 more.

Nah, this is about where the last two console cycles would release new hardware. It's the confluence of a lot of things at work here.
It just feels really early since covid fucked us out of a proper world for a while. Massive supply issues meant devs were forced to cater for the previous generation too. They've only really just got started pushing what this gen is capable of.
I got the Series S (the weaker xbox) and already it cant handle the new games. I mean it can, but the framerate suffers and it makes me nauseous when I turn the camera. Makes some beautiful screenshots, just cant actually play them.

Had the same gut reaction but then realized it’s basically only 1 year ahead of schedule. It REALLY doesn’t feel like the PS5 has been out for 5 years now.
I only got a ps5 two years ago and I'm set with games for years. I'm still working through PS4 games I never got round to. The idea of a new playstation at this point, particularly after the chip shortage debacle, seems absolutely absurd.

I can play my steam games I bought over a decade ago on any hardware. Its awesome. I just got hadies 2 as well and it works flawlessly on the SD.
And that's just steam. I just don't see buying an Xbox/PSehatever/switch5000. Most games come out for everything now. Who cares?
I would have disagreed a month ago but Sonic Racing has removed my biggest reason to consider getting a Switch 2. PC really has it all. Blessed.
