Most people hate the healthcare insurance industry (see almost universal support for Luigi allegedly shooting that CEO), but there is a multi-billion dollar propaganda industry to convince people that any change would only make it worse.
Also of course those who make money off of this scam are quite happy with things as they are, which includes many if not most politicians. This year so far, according to opensecrets, there has been $130 million spent on bribes lobbying by the insurance industry. Add on to that that a majority of congress are millionaires, and are presumably invested in things like insurance companies.
The reason that Americans support this health insurance system is that they want to hurt other Americans. Americans believe that hurting the people they perceive to be below themselves will result in better material outcomes for themselves. Historically, look at Reaganism and Southern Strategy.
The average American thinks that allowing people to die from preventable or treatable illness will keep their grocery bills down. It is a death cult.
Know a nurse that worked in a medicaid/Medicare clinic. Basically place where people either low income, kids covered or no insurance and would be complaining about how they would come in for anything just to get say Tylenol or for easily preventable things but couldn't understand why they would go to the only place it'd be covered so they could actually afford it. Then again could be that it was mostly black people going in so just a way to be judgmental without being obviously racist
Most of the price-volatile groceries are name-branded stuff, highly processed, and/or animal products. So this doesn't even scratch the surface of the illness and suffering inflicted on animals.
I like how it still includes token fees for daring to use your health insurance that costs more than I make in a year. If they don't get that $10 on primary care visits, they might go bankrupt. And don't you even think about seeing a dentist for a $100 cleaning. That would absolutely ruin them.

Dropped his coverage from an accident that wasn't his fault. Wouldn't pay to even find out what the fuck was wrong with him. Bribed the doctors to lie and bullshit him.
He was in agony and waited until he was on medicare before being able to afford diagnosis of pinched multiple vertebrae. But because of the years of extreme inflammation due to nerve damage, he stopped being active and gained a lot of weight. In order to work on his back he had to get a bariatric sugery to loose weight or he can't breathe. He also ended up developing a hernia in his esophagus which they found and removed.
That cost over $30k to the hospital, but becauae of medicaid he only paid $670 (and a decade of constant suffering and agony).

you'd have to be earning... the equivalent of 1.3 million USD annually before being liable $2.5k/month for National Insurance. And the healthcare is actually free.It's a bit complex, but at the end of the day, the money raised from that NI payment alone is equal to the cost of our universal healthcare.

so you have to pay 32k flat and pay 5.2k in healthcare cost in a year in order for your insurance to kick in? and you still have to pay for copay on every expense? and no dental? how is american insurance worse than our private insurance?
No, we have three separate elements here:
Premium - what you pay monthly, no matter what. The cost of entry.
Deductible - is the amount you have to spend before the insurance "kicks in". For Instance, on this plan, there is $0 deductible, which is VERY rare. In this instance, you'd start paying the co-pays right away. Normally, the deductible is a large amount of money. On those plans, you pay the full negotiated cost of the service, which could be in the hundreds or thousands.
Out of pocket max - this is the total amount you have to pay before the insurance covers everything, co-pays included.
