Feature request: A README section explaining what Heliboard is.
Came here to say the same thing. I loaded the GitHub page and it has no description of the device itself or why I should be interested.
I can infer what it is based on the info that’s already there, but still.
Why did she fork openboard? Did development stop? It would be really nice if people would add info to the readme...
Yes the development of OpenBoard has been at a standstill for some time, this fork has added various functionalities
I'm not complaining about the fork.
The old version shall add a big banner at the top that it's discontinued. You shouldn't have to open an issue to ask if it's discontinued. I still see people recommending it. Hopefully not after today.
I'm using floris anyway 😅
Kudos to the first release 👍🏻
Took me a minute to figure out this is a keyboard. Awesome, I'm looking for a good keyboard now. How do i install this on my phone? I don't see it on fdroid or play store.
Check out obtainium, it's on f-droid and it's a downloader/updater of apps from github (and a few other sources) releases.
Thank you!
They will add it to f-droid once they get all of their 1.0 tasks done.
Check the Releases page.
You can get it through Obtainium
Thanks!
Hooray!! Been using this fork for a couple of months. Slap the swypelib in there and its the best keyboard around!!!
I've been making typos for about a year now since I switched from all tue keylogger keyboards. Swype to type is the best way to type on a phone for sure. Saying that... Is this offline
From the github features list... 👌🏻
Allow loading Glide typing library
not included in the app, as there is no compatible open source library
can be extracted from GApps packages ("swypelibs"), or downloaded here
if you are concerned about security implications of loading user-provides libraries, please use the nouserlib build variant, which removes this option. If HeliBoard is installed as system app, and swypelibs are available for the system, they will be used.
How do you do that?
Evidently there is a part at the bottom of advanced in the keyboard settings where you can choose to load the library. Download it from the link on the github page.
High time for me to switch, I always forget that OpenBoard has been on a standstill
is it making to F-droid soon?
Could someone give a short summary of what HeliBoard is? All I see is a feature list
open-source keyboard for android, fork of OpenBoard.
Updated version of OpenBoard, a FOSS private Keyboard for Android. Allows the enablement of swipe typing, has an updated dictionary, and has built in auto fill.
So I've installed, but the docs are seriously lacking - what's the globe button do?
Why do ui designers make buttons that are unclear and lack documentation?
Edit: After a little adjustment to the settings, the autocorrect is nearly as good as Swiftkey. I'm liking it
It'll be weird saying Heliboard instead of Openboard now
New name, old icon. 😁 I'll see how I get on with this keyboard. It'll stop me relying on gifs from Gboard. 👍
It's an alpha release :)
Thank you for sharing this! I have enjoyed thumbkey for a long while, but it's lovely being back on qwerty to try this out :) at minimum it means I have a keyboard to offer when other people use my phone! :)
