There are better map projections available. Even orthographic (Europe-centered of course) is fine for such a small area.

Could you provide one in SVG format? I'm not sure what you mean.

Orthographic = look at globe from afar. Good for small areas, literally unusable for more than 1 hemisphere.
Wikipedia uses such maps frequently, see the Europe article
