1936 brick Ashburton building to be torn down for car park

It will be demolished to make way for car parks at Te Whare Whakatere, Ashburton's new library and civic centre.

I hope they're pressured into doing something decent with the carpark, like putting in trees and footpaths between the rows. Or making it multi-storey so they can stop wasting other space elsewhere. (As if)
- I'd like to see the bricks and other materiel re-used in some way, perhaps as walls.
