I miss YouTube Vanced, it had better UI and more features than the official app. I pay for premium and I like it and all, but I wish they could've adopted some features from Vanced instead of monetizing previously free features such as background play.
Have you tried ReVanced? It's just as good if not better
ReVanced is doing the thing for me where it lets you get about 10sec into a video and freezes. IIRC, I'll have to look for an update. I had to use regular YouTube on my phone today and my god, it's unusable. Absolute trashfire of ads and sponsored videos clogging up my feed.
Most of us had that issue, you can fix it by updating your Revanced Manager to the latest version, downloading the YouTube apk v18.23.35, and patching that one. Then, install your patched version (I didn't need to uninstall my current version) and the issue should be gone.
Thanks. Weirdly now it seems like it's being throttled. Defaults to 144p video quality when set to auto and struggles on anything higher. My internet is fast, so don't think it's that.
Had the same issue. The solution that worked for me is going to Settings>Youtube>Miscellaneous then turning on "Spoof Player Parameter" and "Spoof Player Parameter Type". Might help if you update beforehand too.
I can confirm this works on the new v18.29 and v18.30 apks.
I use Brave browser on my S8 and youtube works fine. Can even enable a setting that lets you minimize brave or turn the screen off and the video plays
No, but I've heard of it. Does it require root?
Nope, you just need to patch it yourself! Install the ReVanced Manager and you'll be ad free in no time!
Awesome, I'll check it out, thanks for the info.
You can also look up ReVanced Extended so you don't have to do the patching yourself.
I use Firefox and I have ublock origin and sponsorblock to watch youtube on my phone. You can also enable background play.
