Republicans will trot out the 'ol "give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day" line.

I think it's two different conservative talking points morphed together:
- "If we give homeless people money, they will just spend it on drugs and alcohol"
- "Poor people are poor because they spend their money rather than investing it."

- ”If we give homeless people money, they won't want to work to earn it. I earned my way!"
- "Poor people are bad with money. That's why they are poor."

I personally think a lot of rich people are bad with money. They're just shielded from consequences because if you blow $200,000 on an expensive watch, and you have another $3,000,000 in the bank, it's not going to ruin you. I've seen numerous examples of rich people just blowing money on bullshit. Meanwhile, poor people are like snipping coupons and making $1000 last a whole month.

I think you're right but also at the same time they can afford to be bad with money. It's not really an equal comparison even for poorer people to make.
