I hate being that cringe guy in the comments posting FD quotes, but this one is such a banger
Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress
FD is FDR I guess?
Frederick Douglass
Never heard of them
In the USA, humans were enslaved. Abolitionists, such as Frederick Douglass, resisted the practice of slavery. There are many important abolitionist figures. I'm fond of John Brown.
Guess they are one of the kind of people you know if you are from that particular county, but if you are you do in fact know who they were.
Very important to American history, but yeah I don't think he'd be much important outside of here. Maybe Liberia.
Unfortunately, I would wager that the average American doesn't know who he is either.
With the mass underfunding of education to enable fascism, probably. "Frederick Douglas is one of the wokes, no money for teaching about him!"
Certainly the caricature of all of the worst parts of America doesn't know who he was:

Frederick Douglass was born into slavery 1818, in Maryland. He escaped at age twenty, and went on to became a prolific author, public speaker, and political activist, in the fight to abolish slavery.
They've never heard of you either
FD Signifier, actually ☝🏼
