There's a good argument to be made that they shouldn't be, but they're usually lumped under the broader Christian umbrella
The old testament in Christianity is just the Torah of the Jewish faith.
With the Mormons they've added a 3rd testament they call the book of Mormon.
I'd argue they're just as separated from Christians as Christians are from Jews.
You won't get disagreement from me. Being non-trinitarian is a pretty huge departure from regular Christianity on its own, without all the rest of their weird mythology.
But neither Mormons themselves nor, more importantly in this case, the general discourse, agree.
Mormons have 3 extra books, actually. The book of Mormon, The book of Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price.
