- store.steampowered.com Balatro - Balatro Turns 1 – Thank You for an Incredible Year! - Steam News
One year ago, Playstack and I launched Balatro, and what a journey it has been! I often said that I made this game for myself and that I wasn't expecting anything to become of it. Seeing so many people connect with Balatro has overwhelmingly filled this year with joy, so from the bottom of my heart ...

My best run so far (Black Stake Plasma Deck)
YouTube Video
After having a lot of trouble on the previous stake using the deck, this was a breeze (first try back to back after https://youtu.be/X3SDc_Ik5aE). Definitely not flawless, but still good result.
Some facts about the run:
- First time reaching Ante 15
- my best hand with 7.6e15 points (https://youtu.be/RC5sNNQ8q7Q?t=4100)
- 4 legendary jokers (effectively 5)
- actually sells one during the run
- sells Blackboard with an almost completely black deck (https://youtu.be/RC5sNNQ8q7Q?t=2714)
Recently started recording my runs because I thought it's nicer than just screenshots, this turned out to be my best one so far. Sure the hand score is skewed due to Plasma, but hey, I don't make the rules.
No, I'm not expecting anyone to watch this whole thing.

Made madness work
First time actually having a working deck around madness. Was good enough to reach Ante 13. https://imgur.com/a/7jIb8qO
- www.pcgamer.com Balatro 1.1 will include new jokers plus a revamp of a really confusing existing one
It also sounds like this might not be the end for Balatro.

This one took a lot of luck
Though I was not hunting for this achievement specifically, the opportunity presented itself while farming Completionist+ (I'm on orange stake on almost all decks)

😩 Don't you hate opening packs that have nothing you can use?
This is one of the best buffon packs I ever got, and it was the very first one I opened that run… and at that point, neither of them did anything (since it's abandoned deck). Blueprint was still appreciated but I thought it was a fun coincidence that technically, neither of these would help right after selecting.
Finished the run, was low stakes anyways but wanted to share the situation.

This is the objectively correct order to put the jokers in. You should be aiming for this exact setup in every single run.

Yes I know, Cartomancer and Hiker should be to the right of the flat mult because Baseball Card makes both give x1.5 mult - I made the decision early on that it's better to have them in The Bluestorm Machine so that their effects can be more easily copied, and it would take way too much effort to rearrange them now.
I'm tempted to make another version of this that ignores Baseball Card entirely so that other uncommmons could be to the left of the flat mult, but again, I (should) value my time, and I don't think Uncle Chaos would approve anyway.
For those who think the image transcription made this post too legible, here's the whole thing reformatted as one long, extremely compressed image instead:

This joker setup would be amazing if only I weren't playing plasma deck
I wouldn't even need jokers for mult so much with telescope.
-
What's the biggest overkill you've ever had?
ALT631086 / 3200 = 197.2
I scored 197× the threshold here with a hearts flush, leading with a face card. Two bloodstones, multiple retriggers, and a photograph.
(I lost this run.)

Do decks have different hidden luck stats?
My Plasma Deck is cursed. Every time I try to play it, the game's RNG dunks on me every chance it gets. I'll be starved for either chips or mult with no way out. I can't even win White Stake. Got Bootstrap? My arcana packs will never have Temperance. Got Photograph? I'll never see Hanging Chad and I probably won't even have any face cards in my standard packs. Lucky cards almost never trigger. Wheel of Fortune is a 95% "Nope!", of course.
This isn't a problem if I play Red Deck or Painted Deck. Chance-based cards actually work sometimes, and lucky cards have a knack for hitting +20 mult if I would die without it.
I think the game's RNG does calculations for how much a certain effect would help your current run, and puts a thumb on the scale one way or another. The game attempts to keep each run viable but not brokenly good. I think Plasma Deck and maybe Ghost Deck result in the game thinking I'm always overpowered and due for some bad luck, permanently.
I have to be careful when considering this, but I'm trying to rule out confirmation bias. Is there any such mechanic mentioned in LocalThunk's posts or the game's LUA scripts? Am I just on tilt and making up superstitions?

Silly gold win
Beat gold today on phone (previous time was on PC) after hitting a wall before... and it was on a deck that looked really unimpressive in both cards and jokers so I thought I'd share, kind of a contrast to the screenshots of super sick setups. It was kind of close in points but money was never an issue. I ran delayed gratification first half which synergized with green.
No negative, foil or polychrome jokers, and only a single holographic. Two common, two uncommon, one rare.
It looks really boringly unoptimized, which I think makes it interesting, strangely enough.

Double Eternal Vagabond, Checkered black stake deck
Had a crazy double Eternal Vagabond run with the Checkered deck. Fortune teller was ofc a must with the amount of tarot cards I was getting all the time. I got it to exactly +100 mult, while having sold many tarot cards.
I was also getting lots of cold cards, so I wanted to try out the Lucky cat, but honestly it felt kinda underwhelming as the lucky cards weren't proc'ing that often.
But I ended up getting 15 aces with 11 of them gold. Mostly because I wanted to go for flush five, which was fun!
