  • Man. Wish I could read that image. I've been looking for cartoons to watch.

What are the two peak ones?

  • I need to start doing this... I think I recently got flagged for not using AI enough...

  • Let's see! 🤞

Your order will be checked by one of our employees shortly. You will then receive further information on the status of your order by e-mail.

    Evidence-Based Language Learning Research

Discover which language learning apps actually work through rigorous statistical analysis by Dr. Roumen Vesselinov and his team.

  • I'm in the US and when I tried migrating from DO to Hetzner, I got asked to upload my passport to prove I'm not spam or something. Same experience with OVH.

Is this a thing for all European hosting companies? I ended up finding some Canadian hosting that would just let me sign up and pay like normal.

  • I know, right! That's a feature! This... might.... just be able to get me off of Whatsapp. I recently learned about Molly, an open source Signal client. They have a F-Droid repo.....

If you can install actual Google Play store apps, please don't tell me. I don't want to know. Lalalalalalala. 🙉🙉🙉🙉

  • Things were unique and fun. That’s just not true anymore. Every new software update adds shit that you didn’t ask for and don’t want (AI, ads, removal of user freedom).

Amen. Every time I hear about a new tech product or startup or conference, now all I see are ads, subscription traps, and generally just people looking for new ways to fuck me.

(And I don't like to be fucked by anyone except Mrs. Wallace)

  • Generally no. I feel like I'm always getting screwed. High price, rushed job because they don't care/have to get to the next job.

One house emergency I'm dealing with right now (I have several) is that the contractor who installed a toilet and tile (paid by previous owner) half assed it and didn't seat the toilet properly and didn't install the tiles properly. So water leaked from underneath the toilet, traveled through hollow tiles, and reached my drywall. I got a mold problem now.

This is why I generally try to do things myself. I don't trust people.

  • I just started experimenting with SailfishOS, a Linux (non-Android) OS for phones. It's got an app store, but since it's not Android the app selection is pretty limited. I was actually wondering if this could be a compromise between full smartphone and full dumbphone.

I am able to run some Android apps, by installing them through F-Droid, like Bitwarden, but it seems like I wouldn't be able to install Facebook I think? Idk. Literally just got this SailfishOS phone from Jolla Devices yesterday.

  • Recommendations only appear in the mobile app.

Holy moly! There they are! Thank you!!!!

I've been mostly using the website!

  • I recently signed up for Qobuz as well... The plan is to stream for a while, but buy music along the way so I'm not left with nothing at the end like Spotify.

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong but... Do recommendations not work at all? It seems like the recommendations are some global list for everyone, not a personalized list based on what I'm listening to. I've been trying to click the heart icon for stuff I like, but it doesn't seem to change the recommendations....

  • Someone needs to make: buenus - clean room proprietary software to AGPLv3

  • It's satire, but also fully functional. And they take money.

So, it's a bit like your boss saying: you're fired! LOL. Hahahaha. It's a joke! Laugh! But, also you are really fired.

  • HiDPI has been an issue on Linux for decades. If you're new to Linux, I'd highly recommend you do not get a HiDPI display. You're gonna have to apply workarounds to get your apps looking normal and for some apps you might just be stuck with blurry fonts.

If you're new to Linux and want less problems, avoid HiDPI.

Just look at how big this thread got: https://community.frame.work/t/tracking-state-of-hidpi-on-linux/8301

  • doesn’t mean every customer that wants high resolution has to suffer.

There's no possible solution to this problem. Oh, no. If only someone could invent some way where customers that want to deal with bugs could buy a HiDPI display and customers who just want their software to work could chose a regular DPI display. Like, if 2 options were available or something crazy like that... Idk.

Also yeah, I'm on a super niche DE nobody has ever heard of: GNOME.

I've dealt with this first hand. It was so bad I returned my old Framework. Not doing that again. Anyway, looks like nothing has changed. Have fun dealing with scaling issues. ✌️

  • It better not have a HiDPI display... It's not "fully Linux compatible" if they ship it with a buggy, non-compatible HiDPI display.

"Full Linux support" should mean I don't have blurry fonts, oddly shaped windows, stuck using only certain DEs, stuck using only certain apps.

  • Huh. Great idea on researching how to best ask for donations. Definitely agree with the research, popups are annoying. I think I like Immich's method. It's a button at the bottom, but it's not annoying. Signal is annoying because I'm a monthly donor, but I still get popups....
