  • In the beginning of the film has some truly bizarre footage from the 1940s where orwell is in the back of a car explaining to his 5 year old son that real life governments literally torture people into literally insisting the 2+2=5. Like he's explaining the 2+2=5 device from the book he's currently writing to a 5 year old, but as if it was real? Its really weird.

  • I own it but I dont seem to read

That said, one time I opened it to a random page and he was making the argument that the organic development of railroads in Europe that were standardized and made efficient by industry competitors as an example of the potential of non-hierarchal decision making.

Made sense to me, I think?! Mostly tho I think about that when I'm speaking about nationalizing amazon.

  • I'm anal........... ;)

Fr tho my natural inclination is always to rush and I've messed up electronics that way before, not keyboards, but better for me to overdo it lol

I haven't heard or read the word "breadtube" in at least two years, possibly more

  • Linux @lemmy.ml

The damn on screen keyboard in fedora!?

  • I didn't mean to imply that anything has changed beyond the word manosphere falling out of favour lol

  • I wasn't thinking of class implications, so much as thinking it was interesting that socially people want to use language that... I dunno, tries to connect their experience and identity with capitalist signifiers? Just think it's part of the rich tapestry (or shroud P:) of ambient, internalized and assumed ideology that shroud-like we are buried in.

people's brains are so addled by capitalism that people who take pictures of people's pets for a living will tell you that they have a "pet photography business"

  • The most infuriating version of this is whole hypocrisy angle liberals love to take. They don't seem to understand how someone could have different standards for their allies and their enemies. Denying reproductive healthcare and directly killing people with wombs is not inconsistent with being "pro-life" if you don't value the lives of people with wombs.

I suspect they don't really understand what it means to have friends OR principles

  • Yeah, two things I left out in this post. One, it's a total fantasy with no basis in reality at all. Two, if you pull at the thread of "the way I feel for no reason" it will probably unravel into "the way I feel specifically because I'm forced to live in the very world these people have created"

  • How did you guess

  • Chapotraphouse @hexbear.net

Someone told me to take comfort that the crimes of the ruling class will haunt their conscience and deep inside they will be tormented by awareness of the lives they lived

  • America is a fascist thing

Edit: and Dunkin obviously, now that they've confessed to their essential role

  • If you look at the bottom it says "America runs on Dunkin"

  • Chapotraphouse @hexbear.net

is this the biggest fascist dogwhistle in advertising history?

  • what if a really bad or scary thing happened to you hahaha

  • Chapotraphouse @hexbear.net

pranks be like: yo bro feeling safe?

  • There's a reason it stands out in my memory so starkly, hahaha

For some extra nauseating context, it aired during the superbowl two weeks after biden's inauguration lmao

  • At this point in his career I don't think Bruce, his team, or even his listeners are all that invested in the quality of his new songs. To them his legacy is secure. For me, the first thing I think of when I hear his name now is the "meet in the middle" superbowl commercial he did a few years back about how we are all just too dang divided (it was an ad for jeep lol)

Hopefully in twenty years I'll be back to thinking "born to run" instead of "Obama podcast"

  • u got me like

  • trump would never pen the words "striking moral clarity" lol

  • Chapotraphouse @hexbear.net

New white house plaques - Please God we would be so blessed to get the official trump administration history of every president

  • Something I don't think is mentioned because someone who knows how to use windows can figure it out: what to do when a window freezes, the keyboard command to reboot, other common things that go wrong and how to get around them. I use a gui task manager and it's basically just like windows, but if the computer freezes on someone who doesn't know what to do you will be receiving a phone call.
