  • Yeah, text of his niece figure skating is the same thing as a video. Solid advice!

  • Damaging a camera is very different from something that makes taking a picture impossible. It doesn't matter if it is passive or active, only the end result is important.

A celebrity might get away with it when just trying to get home but would probably be required to pay for damage to the camera. Anyone at a large venue is going to be ruining everyone's cameras and that would be a huge deal.

  • Nah, that's stupid.

  • Bunched together or with leaves around them was my assumption, not individually like someone just bought some and stuck them in the ground.

Didn't know we harvested them as baby plants.

  • Shipping large volumes of water long distances is not generally feasible. Using saltwater to cool has a ton of extra complications as humidity and proximity to saltwater generally drives up costs for things needed to avoid corrosion.

Building in arid areas avoids a lot of costs, building near rivers in low humidity areas is even better.

  • Well, reusable rockets are worth it

This was already known, but NASA going through the test phase that involved rockets exploding get very different public push back compared to a private company using government money to do the same thing.

, LEO satellite Internet being worthwhile,

Already known, but the negative side effects that starlink ignores were the reason that didn't take off.

    electric cars being a thing.

Electric cars were already a thing. My dad had a home made prototype one based on regular old car batteries with a very limited range in the 80s. What needed to catch up was battery tech, and Tesla was already an electric car company before Musk took over so his involvement has been to get government subsidies for the company to 'innovate' by ignoring laws and make shitty decision like hidden handles or limiting teslas fancy cruise control to cameras that gets people killed.

Other than securing government funding to prop those companies up he hasn't positively contributed to any of those things. All of his other decisions are wrong and he is a dumbass on the technical side who was born into money and knows how to influence people.

  • Sure, everyone is struggling, but some are struggling more than others.

the unemployment rate for men ages 23 to 30 with bachelor’s degrees has jumped in recent months to 6% — compared with 3.5% for young women with the same level of education, according to data analyzed by NBC News.

  • It is also people inserting their own assumptions of intent and the father/son relationship, including myself.

I read it as a helpful parent addressing something their child has complained about while reinforcing the need to change when the current approach isn't working. I've used something along the line with 'no objections' when trying to help my teenager do the things she wants to do but keeps talking herself out of trying.

The exact same language coming from a controlling parent would have completely different meaning based on context. Looking at a comments, a few definitely had controlling parents or parents who didn't accept they were asexual/gay and kept trying to set them up with a gender they had no interest in, possibly reading 'unable to find girls' as the son's way of deflecting encouragement to date a gender they aren't interested in based on personal experience.

It really is wild how people can read the same words and interpret them completely differently based on personal experience influencing assumptions.

  • An equally important part of spam is the volume in a time span. Posting something positive, but massively repetitive, is also spam.

  • harsh and demeaning towards you

Blunt and straightforward is not the same as harsh and demeaning. The father is explaining why he is doing it and how it is addressing the son's complaints and behaviors.

  • Private airplanes of the billionaires in total to less fuel than commercial airplanes.

Ah yes, planes used by 1% of the population isn't equal to thr planes used by 99% of the population. What a great comparison!

  • The AI SEO slop is already destroying the internet, although that negative feedback loop is certainly accelerating it.

  • Krafton continues to show their true colors.

  • By design, LLMs can get faster but cannot be more accurate without a massive intentional approach to verifying their datasets, which isn't feasible because that would counter anything not fact based as LLMs don't understand context. Basically, the training approach means that they get filled with whatever the builders can get their hands on and then they fall back to web searches which return all kinds of unreliable stuff because LLMs don't have a way of verifying reliability.

Even if they were perfect, they will not be able to keep up with the content flood of new information that comes out every minute when used as general purpose answer anything tools.

What AI actually excels at is pattern matching in controlled settings.
