  • I actually think 2020 onwards can be reunderstood as the "International Era". Production from outside the USA has exploded and is more accessible than its ever been, so when people express grievance with say, post-2020 content (especially the release schedules) - you can point out how you aren't really confined to the USA anymore.

What period was the "golden age" of TV in terms of content?

In terms of quality, not in the historical context of 50s and 60s.

  • Soon after Ellis’ statement on Facebook, Wallace shared another X user’s post with Ellis’ video, writing that it was an “Important Update!” and adding that Ellis was not piloting the helicopter and is still alive. Wallace also wrote in another X post that the original rumor that Ellis had been flying the helicopter involved in the crash came from another account with the handle @FakeGayPolitics, which is no longer active. Wallace said the rumor “seemed credible” because Ellis, whom Wallace misgendered in his posts, “wrote an article calling out Trump’s trans military ban only a few days ago.”

How does this logic work in his head?

  • Huh? My objection to the episode's writing has nothing to do with Severance releasing weekly.

This is what good TV shows look like. Sorry. Unless you know the overarching plot of the entire series, you know nothing about the relevance of the episode.

Sure, I'm speculating. At this point, I think it was shoehorned in and didn't seem consistent with Cobel's role in the company and behaviour in the company in S01. I also don't think it was well done.

  • Sorry, I agree with /u/GrumpyDuckling here. The pacing of S02E08 didn't work at all, and what we learned didn't actually seem especially interesting. It also seems shoehorned in as she didn't give the vibes of being that at all in Season 1.

  • So the argument is what, that the white people who had a ‘role model’ for their kids shouldn’t be annoyed that the industry is removing that role model, because race shouldn’t matter. But also that race representation matters, and that it’s important for other races to have representation by taking over the roles of those figures.

Regarding Doctor Who, Nguti will not be the Doctor forever. He's just one of many. Whether or not he was specifically chosen because he's black or not, I don't know, but I don't see any inherent problem with the Doctor being black. Race shouldn't be core to the identity of the doctor.

I mean, we’re busy watching young guys flock to alpha dumbass influencer bros, in part because there are fewer and fewer positive role models for them to look up to.

I think this is a much wider issue beyond the casting for Doctor Who. I'd argue the general decline of entertainment monoculture in general plays more of a role here than any particular creative decision for remakes or reimagining of TV series and films.

  • I know nothing about those particular shows or films. I would expect a US remake of a show or film to possibly do recasts.

Does this upset you? I believe Thailand also did a modern reimagining of Snow White too, with a Thai actress playing the role.

Doctor Who has always been a character who can regenerate and reform by design. They're an alien species. I'd argue its more important they're eccentric guile heroes in performance than their sex or race.

  • Dude I'm just trying to entice continued activity. I appreciate that some here are sharing more popular shows. Maybe I could make a rating cut-off point on IMDB (5k votes or lesser) and remove all comments that include a show above that threshold lol.

  • Well kinda, except if I wanted to do I could just extract the datafiles from steam and then get crack if the worst happened.

Plus Netflix/Amazon/Apple remove content all the time and thus terminate people's access to stuff they've bought on there.
