/u/outwrangle before everything went to shit in 2020, /u/emma_lazarus for a while after that, now I’m all queermunist!

  • For me it was Microsoft's support for genocide in Palestine.

    You want to support that?

  • Imperialism is an economic relationship, it's not just when countries go to war. Using financial tools (loans, bonds, restructuring, etc) to trap an imperialized nation in underdevelopment and dependency, servicing debts instead of reinvesting in the nation.

You know who is trapping Ukraine in debt right now? Here's some highlights: $23.6 billion in external bonds denominated in dollars and euros, $16 billion to the IMF, and $7.5 billion to a bunch of Western countries (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, Britain and the United States). Private lenders got in on the game too, the largest creditor being $700 million owed to U.S. agribusiness giant Cargill. Overall their external debt adds up to $104.8 billion.

Never let a good crisis go to waste.

Oh, and how much does Ukraine owe to Russia? A $3 billion bond and a $600 million loan owed to Russia. A drop in the ocean. Isn't that interesting?

  • Poll taxes.

  • I'll maybe start pacing around, but I can do this shit all day.

It's an ADHD thing, I think.

  • Biden and the rest of Europe never gave Ukraine enough support to win either.

This should tell you that the goal of US intervention in Ukraine was never to win.

Liberals don't want to talk about that. They want to pretend the only problem is Putler having Trump's pee tapes or something lol

  • Doesn't work, I'll just daydream.

  • Yeah, it doesn't destroy every single person that works there. Some people don't have that part of their brain that gives them empathy for non-human animals, so for them it's just a job - usually with okay pay and sometimes benefits.

But, statistically, workers destroy their lives working in slaughterhouses. On the whole, they're a blight on society.

I've also killed and butchered enough animals to know that I do not want to do that ever again. Even killing a fish bothers me, you can see how scared they are even if you can't hear their screams. How could I ask someone else to do something I refuse to do myself?

  • It's the same as any exploitative industry, we live in a capitalist hellscape where you have to earn your right to live. No job is actually voluntary. They work where they have to for survival, even if it means getting PTSD. You don't get to act like the victim here, bloodmouth.

I remind you of the blood in your mouth because it forces you to confront your complicity. I know why it bothers you because it bothered me too. No one is born a vegan, after all.

So, get mad at me. I don't really care, I was there once. You're just trying to deflect the anger you feel at yourself.

  • No one kills themselves because they have to spread fertilizer on their crops.

Workers do, in fact, kill themselves because they have to work in slaughterhouses. The blood is human.

  • Just to clarify, death to Amerikkka.

I just recognize that the empire is dangerous and understand why weak liberals don't want to provoke it.

    Possible contender!

  • Yes, Russia controls all the world's governments.

This is a reasonable thing to believe and not at all fucking stupid. 👍

  • Please recommend me a news outlet that isn't propaganda. CNN? MSNBC? Fox? lol

  • Yeah, look at how we all read the threads posted to our instance.

  • It's to remind you of the blood. Yes, the process of slaughter and butchery and processing removes it (most of it) but that allows you to pretend that you aren't a killer. We remind you of the blood so that you don't get to pretend that beef grows on store shelves.

But what really bothers me about the industry is slaughterhouses. People who work in slaughterhouses suffer from drastically higher rates of depression, anxiety, suicidality, alcoholism, criminality, etc etc. than the rest of the population. The blood in your mouth isn't actually the blood of chickens and cows and pigs, it's the blood of workers who die for you to have your treats.

But, also, it's just for fun. I don't believe you can convince anyone of anything on the internet, the communication here is far too alienated and abstracted. There's literally nothing anyone can ever say in a comments section to convince meat eaters to stop eating meat, it's actually kind of absurd to even pretend there was a chance I could convince you. It has to either be a personal connection or you need to come to this conclusion on your own by watching documentaries and shit.

Also also veganism can never gain global traction without being organized. As long as it's just individual people choosing not to eat animal products and individual people choosing to troll carnists on the internet it won't ever actually matter. Again, it's just for fun.

  • Driving is simultaneously the most boring and most dangerous thing people do day-to-day. They want the driving to stop as soon as possible, so they speed. They don't want to be stuck with their own thoughts for even a single second, so they text.

And there's no choice. It's not like they can get anywhere without a car in this shithole country.

  • Yes, the US is a stupid country full of stupid people.

But, there's a reason Europe is bending the knee. As stupid and self destructive as the US is, it can still wreck their economy.
