/u/outwrangle before everything went to shit in 2020, /u/emma_lazarus for a while after that, now I’m all queermunist!

  • They certainly think they're Christians.

Society and culture are downstream from the material conditions, and under the current material conditions the wealth and prosperity of society is built on the back of superexploitation, war, theft, slavery, and genocide. The kind of culture produced by empire can't be moral, it doesn't matter their religion or lack of religion. All moral positions are hollow under imperialism.

You aren't going to end imperialism, militarism, materialism etc by just changing the society or the culture. It's the exact opposite. You can only change society and culture by ending imperialism, militarism, materialism, etc etc. This is always the kind of society and culture that would have been produced by advanced capitalism, religion is entirely irrelevant.

  • Filled with icky worms.

Or "for what it's worth", but I like mine better.

  • The way "philosophers" talk to people they disagree with is so ffucking infuriating. They probably think they're trying to explain their philosophy in simple terms to be easier to understand, but it comes across as talking down and being dismissive. My blood pressure kept spiking reading some of those exchanges, why the fuck do they think talking to people like that is okay? What's wrong with them?

  • God is also decorative in the West. The most religious people in the West are also imperialistic, militaristic, materialistic, hedonistically nihilistic “societies” of amoral, lonely strangers. Clearly the problem isn't cultural, it's something more fundamental.

  • It's not normal for the US and I still think that's an interesting development.

  • 20 is a typo, it's actually phone bō and it's the art of fighting with a phone staff.

  • The failure of the troop surge in Iraq combined with the global financial crisis to make USAmericans feel like losers. Bush's folksy stupid guy persona turned sour, he went from "a guy I want to have a beer with" to "a stupid piece of shit that ruined everything."

  • People are being rounded up into concentration camps, there's constant extrajudicial killings, and it's getting worse.

  • (the ketchup is also made from corn syrup)

  • There's always intra-class conflict among the bourgeoisie, what we're seeing now is probably a slap-fight between billionaires.

  • The AI isn't even really generating company growth, it's just generating investor interest. The companies are stagnant, or declining.

  • They've never been witty, they've been playing on easy mode since the end of WWII and now the tutorial level is over.

  • Yeah, the US would never allow that.

  • So, we're trapping them in debt slavery so that we can steal their natural resources. They die, we profit. Win/Win

Also, it's not like those profits go to us. They go to the manufacturers and their investors, with only some coming back in the form of wages. It's mostly a way to take public dollars and then hand it out to political donors. Win/Win/Win

  • If you didn't donate your life savings to Harris, really, you donated to Trump.

  • We subconsciously find each other and vibe with each other, our friend groups are reflections of ourselves.

Sometimes it doesn't work out that way by random chance, but it's definitely too common to be a coincidence.

  • I heard about that! Heat from data centers is harder, unfortunately, because the amount of waste heat generated by a nuclear reactor is far higher than the amount generated by a data center. With smaller quantities of heat come greater costs to recuperate it, at least until they link all the waste-heat sources up into a single network that can collect from multiple data centers.

China is moving fast, though. I bet we'll see some kind of project like this before the bubble pops in the US.

  • I feel like dumping "waste" heat is the same as burning off "waste" gas from pumping oil.

It's not really just a waste byproduct, there just isn't a profitable way to utilize it. That heat could be used, but we just dump it into the ocean or the atmosphere because it's cheaper than building municipal heating or recycling it for industrial uses.
