/u/outwrangle before everything went to shit in 2020, /u/emma_lazarus for a while after that, now I’m all queermunist!

  • There have to be at least a few people who believe his "peace president" bullshit.

  • You're right, no one ever does anything on purpose. Somehow the richest and most powerful people in the world are all stupid, bad at their job, incompetent, and make mistakes. There are only coincidences. Nothing is done on purpose.

  • This isn't even about Shakspear's plays, it's about his physical appearance.

    Not exactly a useful metric.

  • There'd also be people who refuse to eat human meat and everyone else would make fun of them.

  • Liberals believe stuff, they just don't believe anything is possible. They believe in a ton of disparate things they pick up in their ideological shopping cart that have nothing to do with each other and then jam them all together, regardless of contradictions or outright mutual exclusivity. This creates fundamental structural impossibilities in their belief system, and they just accept it.

They believe in equal opportunity at the same time and with the same intensity as they believe that rich parents should be able to help their children get ahead. It's impossible to have both, and they reconcile this by saying "perfection is the enemy of the good" and then find some stupid horrible middle ground. Instead of just eliminating debt so everyone has equal opportunity to go to college, we eliminate the debt for Pell Grant recipients who start a business that operates for three years in a disadvantaged community.

  • Europe certainly will.

  • They'll twist twist twist the numbers until, somehow, the death toll is 1000 higher than the official death toll in Gaza.

  • It's currently $1.6 billion in the hole, and adding $227 million per month because the fund is being looted. Seems like something any large country could step in and resolve with additional funding, gaining a huge amount of leverage for a very reasonable price.

  • She wants me to call her Vicky and she just got a nose piercing and says I'm chopped and washed??

  • Are you under the impression that the US doesn't have laws against using your phone while driving?

  • People will actually defend this, too. They'll say that Maduro was just making stuff up before and frame it like a boy-who-cried-wolf situation, and actually, Maduro must have given Trump the idea to attempt a regime change operation etc etc

  • Decades ago? What are you talking about? As far as I can tell distracted driving detection software is an extremely recent technological development that's been adopted in a few countries in the past few years. The UK was first I think, in 2021. France and Germany only upgraded in the last year. I don't need to be mocked for missing out on the latest and greatest in traffic enforcement technology, and I don't appreciate being talked down to like I'm fucking stupid or the butt of a fucking joke.

  • Women receive hatred for being assaulted.

  • As the others have said, this is actually a complicated problem without easy solutions.

The only way I could see it working is if you were required to register the driver's phone in the car, required to connect it (wirelessly or not) when driving, and then monitor it. Basically, combine the phone and the car key. There'd also need to be authentication to make sure the driver doesn't register a burner phone to turn their car on or register a friend/partner's phone. Then, of course, you'd have to refit all the cars already on the road to add this requirement, which is especially hard for pre-2010 cars.

And everyone would hate it. I'm all for pissing off motorists, but they're kind of the societal majority.

  • 20% in support, 50% opposed, 30% undecided somehow

  • They'll probably justify the caste system i.e. Goblins are ontologically greedy, Elves love being slaves, etc etc

  • This all seems like a way to sidestep the problem of having a hostile media infrastructure, rather than solve the root problem.

If any large-scale election is just going to be a dictatorship of the television, then control the television.
