/u/outwrangle before everything went to shit in 2020, /u/emma_lazarus for a while after that, now I’m all queermunist!

  • I noticed when I transitioned that my ADHD symptoms changed from manageable to impossible, so I suspect hormone changes as you get older can have a similar effect. I used to be the "can't sit still, constantly interrupts people, never pays attention" type, now I'm the "can't start or switch tasks, can't regulate emotions, hyperfixates on pointless shit" type. I was unmedicated for 20 years, now I'm going back to the psych to be reevaluated again because it's gotten so bad.

  • The voter ID law is a clue - anyone who has a name different than what is on their birth cirtificate. Women who take their husbands names don't need to be able to vote or have bank accounts, they have husbands for that!

  • The regime actually does this, sometimes, like with the illegal tariffs. They site the law they pretend lets them do what they want to do, even when it really doesn't.

  • My understanding is that FDIC means you can't really do a bank run, the bank can just get its money back from the feds

  • Don’t want to do even that? Then stop getting fast food.

That's exactly right. Being against tipping as a concept is fine, but the idea that we can end tipping culture by refusing to tip is fundamentally accelerationist. "Surely if we torture the workers enough they'll be forced to demand higher wages!"

Either we refuse to even be customers for places that underpay their workers, or we tip generously to try to make up for it.

  • I should finish reading The Fort Bragg Cartel

    Seems relevant.

  • I don't think the politics of the porn can actually address the root problem, which is that we're seen as inherently pornographic. It's probably less bad for the porn to have good politics, but I don't know if that's actually the best solution to the problem. We need a lot more non-pornographic representation, but we probably also need less pornographic representation along with it.

The politics of the porn might even be irrelevant to the problem, because the problem is that our existence is X-rated. Whether the porn has good or bad politics won't actually change whether or not they believe we need to be kept away from children.

  • That won't work until the next census, right? I don't think representatives are allocated based on a live running tally of the population.

  • Need a mock execution set of my dice to remind them of their place.

  • The right-wing wants to ban us from public life because they believe a woman having a penis is inherently pornographic, because that's literally their only exposure to us. It's not just about the euphemism treadmill, the way porn portrays us is actively making our lives worse. We're overly sexualized to the point that they believe they need to protect their children from us. It is dehumanizing.

Porn doesn't have to be this way, but to fix it there would need to be a total transformation of the entire industry and media landscape. It's a serious problem and no one wants to confront it, because they like their porn and don't want to give anything up.

  • I'm against the LLM bubble. They're gobbling up all of our compute, electricity, water, and basically all investment capital while not even generating productivity gains or improving anyone's lives. Internet search is now dead, all my fan communities are just full of slop instead of art from artists, and the piggies that own the data centers are destroying all culture to feed their autocomplete machines. LLMs have accelerated the decay of civilization in a way that we might struggle to recover from when the bubble pops. Half the time it's not even AI, the real work is just outsourced to some superexploited workers in the Global South.

There are some legitimate use-cases for LLM technology, but the way they're trying to cram it into everything is actually just wrecking everything. It seems like they're destroying the world for a worse calculator that can pretend to be your girlfriend.

  • I have made more tortillas!

Letting them sit a little longer to hydrate seems to have helped a lot, as did letting my pan heat up more. Unfortunately my pan now has a bunch of burned dough crusted onto it and is going to have to soak for a while before I scrub it. Might have gotten it too hot?

They're really good, and don't seem to flake apart or crack anymore when I roll them!

  • Even if they can't articulate these material forces in words their education gives them the correct sense of their place in the world. This cohort can correctly identify that they benefit from the empire, even if they wouldn't describe it in those terms.

Call that indoctrination if you like, but what this means is that further education can not fix them. Making them more educated will only make them more loyal to the empire because they'd have an ever better understanding of their own place within it.

  • There's two kinds of fascists.

There are the people who become fascist because capitalism and imperialism and colonialism are in their material interests. These people need to defend the empire from decay, and they range from educated to very educated. They know exactly what they support because it benefits them, materially. They're petite bourgeois, they're settlers, etc. I think we can assign some determinism here, their beliefs are just a product of their social class and material conditions. Education can only help so much here.

Then there are the people who become fascists because they have false consciousness, and these people range from poorly educated to miseducated. They have no idea what they support, they don't understand their own material interests, and they simply fell into these beliefs because of social conditioning from the first group of fascists. In some cases, the material conditions themselves will force them to rise above their social conditioning because they'll educate themselves, but usually someone else needs to step in and educate them. They really do benefit from education, though, because they just need to be informed.

I don't know if culpability is ever actually useful to discuss in either of those cases. It doesn't really change what we have to do.

  • He absolutely does, but he thinks it's bigger than South America because it looks big on the map projection.

  • At least somebody's using it!

  • They said "China doesn’t have problems with homeless or unemployment" and that was correct, 5.1% unemployment is full employment. You're just too up your own ass to communicate with, you just want to "win" instead of talk like a reasonable person. You see me as something inhuman, just another mindless hivemind NPC to crush with your incredible intellect.

This wasn't a contest and you didn't win anything, you just ruined a discussion for no reason.
