/u/outwrangle before everything went to shit in 2020, /u/emma_lazarus for a while after that, now I’m all queermunist!

  • In a lot of cases the people they detain might have several months or a year or more of procedure to get through, but they'd be allowed to stay after that, and in normal conditions they'd simply be let go and made to report to court for their proceedings. They've short circuited that process and now are just keeping people in detention while their cases are heard in immigration court. The goal here is to make people give up on their cases and choose to "self deport" by placing them in inhumane conditions. It's why so many people have died in ICE custody, their detention is designed to be unhealthy and dangerous to increase the pressure.

  • I literally multiplied their numbers by a factor of ten, the same one you used. I imagine the official count might be off, but a factor of ten is extreme. Yet, even when I did that, they outperformed the world.

We could have done that. Instead, we were marched to our deaths.

That's why COVID was my radicalization moment.

  • I'm sure the West didn't have anything to do with creating and spreading lab leak conspiracy theories to smear China.

Even if they under-counted by a factor of ten (which seems like a pretty extreme estimate) they still outperformed other non-island market economies by a significant margin. Their official death rate was 85 deaths per million. I'm no mathematician but I'm pretty sure that means, by a factor of ten, the "real" death rate was 850 deaths per million.

Now lets look at those other developed countries you listed:

Sweden: 2,798 per millionFinland: 2,058 per millionSwitzerland: 1,611 per millionJapan (another Island): 597 per millionFrance: 2,616 per million

Looks like China did amazingly well, even if you inflate their numbers. In the same order of magnitude as Japan, a literal island.

  • ... I'm finding mass graves that date back to the Second Sino-Japanese War. Are you talking about the rebels that were killed during the cultural revolution? That was clearly a factional dispute, not ethnic cleansing. Mao even condemned it, and the martyrs cemetery isn't even a secret that anyone "found".

Oh but now all the deaths are covered up by cremation and super secret, but trust us, they're totally real. 🙄

  • It didn't embrace it, it used it. The commanding heights of the economy are still controlled by the Communist Party and the economy is still centrally planned. That's why, during the pandemic, they could tell the market to shut down and implement the government's Zero COVID restrictions. Politics are in command. The only market economies that could show similar results from the pandemic were islands that didn't need to actually shut the economy down because they could simply restrict travel.

  • Developed countries staying developed isn't really remarkable.

Developing countries becoming developed is actually remarkable, because countries usually end up stuck in underdevelopment as they're ruthlessly exploited by the global economy. China is finally escaping a trap that has ensnared the rest of the Global South.

Compare that to a developed country like the US seemingly falling into underdevelopment. The contrast is remarkable, too.

  • Hopefully the war with Iran wipes this slate clean and Zionism becomes a bad memory.

  • Calling oil sales aggression is some interesting spin.

  • I'm pretty sure Hasan Piker also likes how Chinese life expectancy has surpassed the US, how Chinese literacy rates have surpassed the US, how Chinese homelessness is lower than the US, etc etc. Those are hardly superficial things.

Like I said, life in China is getting better and better (even in rural areas, though it's slower) and life in the US is getting worse.

  • You shame every victim of every genocide in history when you compare education with death. In every other genocide there was always mass death. So, where's the mass graves? Oh there aren't any.

  • Those boarding schools have graveyards. They weren't just taking our language and cutting our hair, they killed us too.

China simply isn't doing that. Calling something "genocide" without mass death rings hollow. Every genocide in history has always been accompanied with mass death, that's how we should identify something as genocide.

  • This smear campaign rings hollow after the past few years of Israel's genocidal actions. We know what genocide looks like.

  • If you haven't noticed, young people are very impressed with how life in China seems to be getting better and better while our own lives get worse and worse. Chinamaxxing etc

  • The blackouts are caused by the siege war being waged by the US, not a free concert that Cuba's government put on.

  • Deleting your reddit.world account punishes them too, because the fewer people that use that instance the less important their moderation decision are.

  • Who are even the people who like having touch controls on their earbuds? Every fucking time I touch them for any reason it causes some function to fire off and then I have to spend time fixing it, but I can hardly get it to perform the functions I actually want. Want to stop? Oops you fast-forwarded 10s. What to rewind? Nope, it's stopped. Fuck you, give me buttons.

  • You can just blend hot sauce with some kind of semi-solid fat to make buffalo sauce.

  • And now Germany suffers because it can't access Russian energy. Win/Win for the US.

I think that's a short-term victory, though. In the long run this will drive the EU away from the US.

  • And when they crash the economy they'll make more money on the way down.
