Trump conditions FEMA disaster funds to pro-Israel stance

  • Decrying Taiwan’s exclusion from global affairs while committing a holocaust against the indigenous Palestinian population. Settler colonialism at its finest.

  • The issue isn’t just the amount of money involved. It’s who ultimately benefits.

The elephant in the room is the proposed handout to the company that owns the Spurs. It’s one thing to have a city-owned and operated venue (unionized, well paying civil servant jobs), where concessions, ancillary fees and partial ticket proceeds all go back to the city. It’s another thing entirely to write a blank check based on the threat of leaving. That’s emotional blackmail for the fans, and extortion for the rest.

This is a link to a Last Week Tonight episode about publicly funded stadiums from nine years ago. https://youtu.be/xcwJt4bcnXs

If a new stadium has to be built, then let it be owned and operated entirely by the City of San Antonio. The Spurs can throw another tantrum like a petulant child. This city doesn’t belong to them.
