  • I'm optimistic that they're more likely to learn something during that process, but that might not be a well founded belief.

  • They're just so... unimaginative. There are so many things other than coal and mining people could invest in.

  • I think a lot about the time a junior developer on the team was like "I'll use chat GPT to reverse this list" and I was just like my guy we're working in Python that's a one line expression.

  • Easier to link directly to the different sizes, probably, done like this, too

  • I use keyword arguments in Python to minimize this pain. Instead of

     python

    create_user("Bob", True, False)

    it's

     pytbon

    create_user(name="Bob", admin=True, send_email=False)

JavaScript makes that more cumbersome with the object thing , but it's better than nothing.

  • Right?

It drives me nuts that they want to spend trillions of dollars on technology to write for people instead of teaching people how to write.

  • Sure, and many some things are more easily conveyed in text.

There's also a mass illiteracy problem. I expect that's part of why youtube et al are so popular - many people can't read well. I think many of them don't even realize they're semi-illiterate, and think reading is just uncomfortable, and they don't know why anyone would do it on purpose.

  • For very visual things, video can be understandable. "How do you do this jumping sequence in this game?" or "how do you assemble this doohickey?"

I am probably the weirdo but I absolutely do not want video on as "background". I don't dual-screen, either. I'll put music on when cooking sometimes.

  • Windows is pretty bad. Microsoft should be split up. If I had the magic powers, its leadership would be stripped of wealth, barred from holding similar positions for life, and have their faces on some sort of wall of shame. Everyone is allowed to throw trash at them, and they have to pick it up.

  • He's a broken person on the inside. He's like homelander in the boys. All this power, but he's still a sad little boy no one likes.

Unlike Homelander, Musk is not impervious to conventional hazards.

  • I read that's why they did this: to force people to use it wirelessly. Not sure that's really a big win. Wired mice are just fine with me.

  • They don't care. They don't care about making sense or being internally consistent.

They care about their in-group being on top, and everyone else subjugated or dead. That's it. Conservatives are bad people.

  • Well, yes, "why don't you care about things?" is a timeless problem. People don't like to see beyond the immediate. Probably because in pre-history, the creatures that focused on right now did better than the ones who went "but if we keep cutting down the trees, eventually it's going to cause problems."

Well, now we have many problems, and our brains have not advanced.

  • Watch YouTube and similar video. If I want to know something, I'd rather read something for 5 minutes than watch something for 15. Throw some illustrations or gifs in there if you need.

If I want to be entertained, I have many games and books. Or Lemmy to fuck around on.

  • I think a lot about the time I saw two cops park in a fire lane in order to go to a Dunkin donuts. Was like watching a political cartoon in real life.

  • "secret"?

Yeah , if consoles were a good financial deal maybe I'd buy them. They're not. Steam is good value for the money.

  • If I was magically in charge, I would make it so if you got an unwanted text or call you report it and the phone company has to pay you like $10.

They don't deal with this problem because they only care about profit.

  • They're doing this instead of just making regular search decent.

I just want to see jobs that use python. Stop showing me C#.

    Microsoft should be split up

  • "Exactly". "Truly". "Literally, in the traditional sense not the post modern sense where it means emphatically or figuratively"
