  • what I mean is that my initial point was to try to highlight NY State's weird and archaic rape laws, and I did a pretty crappy job of that, initially coming off like I was trying to defend Trump. I can see why that triggered some people, and, given the topic and the space, I should have been more thoughtful before I said anything.

  • sorry, the past few months have felt like a decade!

  • sorry, the past few months have felt like a decade!

  • So, if you’ve every had to clean out the inside of your son’s penis, you might feel a little bit differently. Circumcision was considered a standard hygienic practice for decades. There are some marginal benefits to health and safety, particularly wrt transmission of STDs. But given the modernizations in health and safety (particularly condoms and milder skin-friendly soap) it definitely feels archaic.

It feels archaic because this is archaic bullshit. it takes about a second to pull back the foreskin and wash it with the rest of the penis/pubic area during a normal bath the bathing a baby/toddler, and teaching a child this very normal habit is very simple and easy. The vast majority of human males on Earth handle this very normal task, and have done so for the entire existence of humanity.

Just because the misinformation you just repeated was pushed by the American medical establishment for a few decades doesn't make it fact, and it has been widely repudiated by the medical establishments everywhere else, and even here in the US in recent decades.

It is no longer widely recommended, even in the US.

And your personal preference isn't really medically relevant.

  • oh, I forgot about that-- it was a long time ago. edit: sorry, the past few months have felt like a decade!

    still:

    • that was twitter (not even X yet), not his own platform
    • he was much more adroit then. he's much more old grandpa crazy now
      • he won't say he's sorry, he'll double-down, if he acknowledges it at all
        • if he goes the double-down route, which is possible because I don't think this Pope-fight bullshit is going away (yay!), who knows what downhill direction the diarrhea will run

    • this Pope-fight isn't just affecting Trump, now his "Christian" base is getting involved, and not on Trump's side

so, this is gonna be fun to watch

    edit: 15:37 ET (UTC -05:00)

ok, so, it has been fun to watch! His response...

Trump gets McDonalds DoorDashed to White House and then takes Iran war questions with delivery person

so, he admits to posting it because he claims he thought he "looked like a doctor healing people" which either makes him seem to be the biggest liar ever or the most completely bonkers person ever, and, really, it's not an either/or situation anymore but a matter of "which is more the case" at this point.

    more to come...

  • ok, yet...

  • trump deleted a post? on his own platform?

    ok, that is news

  • if you lost a whole inch from your circumcision, they did it wrong.

that said, when I was around 18 or so, I really had it out with my parents over circumcising me. at 47, I'm still unhappy about it.

  • corporate success for companies as huge as McDonald's or Coca-Cola rely on the broadest appeal. that means being politically agnostic. aligning with anyone would alienate at least some of their customer base and cost them tremendous amounts of money. so they just stay as neutral as possible.

  • I should have been more clear in my initial comment. I apologize for not being more considerate in my wording.

  • How do you feel about gig work?

  • And he is. Let there be NO DOUBT.

as I have said several times, nobody here is debating that. I was just discussing the difference in legal terminology in NY State. Even the judge in the case, in her final ruling, did express her frustration with the State of New York's anachronistic legal terminology.

It stems from NY State defining rape - a very long time ago - as the unwillful act of, basically, "man put penis in woman's vagina". Not even her 'other places' which were defined as sodomy. Eventually, and much later, other acts that, in most other places were also defined as also rape, NY State decided to create a new law to cover as 'sexual assault' rather than expanding their rape laws as most other places did.

many people - then and still today - find this to be many flavors of bullshit and have and continue to try to change this by consolidating all such acts into the legal definition of rape in NY State. the fight is ongoing.

  • I'm not so sure what about this you find so difficult to understand here. I really don't.

I've explained it several times in many different ways, from complex to simple.

    • trump committed what is commonly defined as a rape

    • in a civil court, he was found liable for having committed what, in NY State, is legally defined as sexual assault

    • he paid e jean carroll a massive, multi-million-dollar judgement

    • he was not "convicted of rape"

why is that so hard to understand?

  • So you’re saying that...

no. you said that. all of that.

all I did was explain, repeatedly, that, in New York State, there is a legal distinction between a crime and a civil offense, and that there is also a legal distinction between rape and sexual assault. further, Donald Trump was never convicted of the crime of rape in the state of New York (nor anywhere to my knowledge). nowhere here did I nor anyone argue whether he actually did rape her.

just relax. You’re all bent out of shape for nothing.
