  • Yes! I don't have an ADHD diagnosis but I do struggle with working/short term memory (from depression and SSRI treatment) and executive dysfunction (aforementioned depression). You mentioning this makes me realise these pauses do feel very similar to executive dysfunction.

  • Yeah, I assumed so. I guess I was just worried it might be something neurological, that also causes tiredness and stress.

  • Oh that's interesting.

I don't know if it's anxiety, but I definitely feel the pressure not to keep the person or people I'm talking to hanging.

The problem I have is that I don't feel it coming on. It's just suddenly there, so recognizing the situation and rephrasing doesn't feel possible: once I'm stuck, I'm stuck. It's like missing a step when you're going up stairs: you can't skip the stumbling part.

    Brain pauses?

  • I'm sorry you experienced this. My assessment had the same outcome.

I find it helpful to remember that diagnostic assessments are set somewhat arbitrarily and are more concerned with the question "do these symptoms negatively affect your life to the extent they need intervention?". That question is purely subjective and isn't reflective of you.

  • No I don't think they're full of shit. The picture likely came from this Instagram video. It might have been upscaled or filtered but it's not AI generated.

  • Nah it's these things that are throwing me off:

    • the break in the chocolate coating doesn't align
    • the berries look like whirlpools
    • photo shows both hands from the perspective of the person with those hands: how was the photo taken?
  • This picture looks odd. Did you use some sort of generative AI for it?

  • Are you okay?

  • I understand. I hope you're able to find some activities to help settle that high energy sadness. I can relate to that feeling but the things that work for me when I'm in that state tend to be the opposite to high activity and mental focus: eg. practicing mindfulness, taking myself for a slow walk in nature, proverbially touching grass.

  • A few people have suggested drumming, which I'd also recommend.

Have you ever been dancing? One of my biggest pressure relief mechanisms is going to a music venue and just... dancing to bands or a DJ. It brings me back into my body, it's a great physical workout, and it also keeps me mentally engaged.

I understand this isn't something you can do immediately if you're feeling frustrated, but I feel it can help with longer-term benefits towards emotional regulation.

  • Thank you for this video! that was so much fun to watch (and I want to try it out too!)

  • Haha thank you! even if that's not from the contest, it's a great picture nonetheless.

  • Brutus are one of my favourite bands out of the past decade. They're outstanding musicians and their songwriting is incredible.

  • I didn't know about Sandrider before this compilation was announced, but I'm definitely gonna check out their discography now. The March of the Pigs cover goes hard.
