  • Yeah sorry, I had assumed your posts were automated since they were so constant and whenever I looked at your profile it seemed like all that was there was an endless stream of article posts. After making the above comment though, I looked again and saw breaks and comments for the first time, realized my mistake, and then deleted my post.

EDIT: I think I deleted my post. It looks deleted to me, but maybe it doesn't look deleted from other instances? I apologize again.

  • I've started to notice this as well. @supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz makes up most of the post traffic on the mander.xyz communities, and the account posts multiple times an hour, almost constantly. They post scientific articles, which while topically relevant, are spam-y.

  • People act similarly for stuff like Linux though. Gotta build a cool brand for the Fediverse!

  • It’s not… Deal with the fact you need a phone to be a functional part of modern society.

Talking with people on the other side of the planet in real time didn't used to be possible either. Submission to a king used to be required to be a functional part of society. Lots of things are impossible until people make them possible. That's the whole point of things like Meshtastic to begin with. People like OP, trying crazy things and making mistakes and figuring stuff out, are the vanguard who make these changes possible.

  • Good to know, thanks!

  • Good to know, thanks.

  • I've thought about it. Eventually I suspect I might. There's a few reasons I'm not doing so right now though:

    • I want the server we start with to be highly reliable, and that means I'd prefer to trust a host with more admin experience than I have.
    • Self-hosting is a non-option for me right now in any case.
    • While technically I could afford to pay hosting fees, I'm trying to spend as little as possible right now.

Eventually, I think I will want to set one up, just not soon unfortunately.

  • OOOH

I had not found this, thank you!

  • Matrix @programming.dev

If I want to get my non-tech-savvy friends into using Matrix, what homeserver should I tell them to make an account on?

  • Is there a given reason for this? Is it something they're working on changing? I know very little about cybersecurity, but that sounds like a suboptimal situation.

  • Could you elaborate on what those "shady encryption practices" are?

  • To quote the actual abstract, not just the headline,

There is mounting experimental evidence that lifetime exposure to these increasing atmospheric CO2 levels can negatively impact the normal physiology of organisms. However, directly assessing this in humans is very difficult.

It does not say that they for sure know that atmospheric CO2 levels are going to be toxic within 50 years. It only says that, based on one examination of indirect proxies, it seems like that might be the case. Something which definitely should be studied further, because even the possibility of global atmospheric toxicity is worrying, but not something to jump to conclusions on, because doing so is bad science.

Their study result makes me feel kind of sick to my stomach too, I just want to keep a level head and not jump to "welp I guess we'll all be paying billionaires for clean oxygen tanks in 50 years".

If this really does turn out to be a problem we're heading towards, it's also premature to conclude that it won't get fixed. I know that if I learn that this is for real, I'm certainly going to be telling everyone I know about it and looking for ways to spur useful action.
