  • Oh... I just googled it... didn't even know birth certificated are that cheap...

Cuz people who do not have birthright citizenship have to pay $500 to file for a replacement Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship...

    kinda expensive ngl

  • Every comment section is xenophobic

Every problem is the fault of "immigrants, democrats, black people"

Japan very civilized because... "it's homogenous society, unlike the US"... 🧐

    CCP Shills

Far-right falsely accusing all Chinese diaspora of being CCP Spies... 🙄

And mean like... you got both Tankies and Sinophobes on one platform... oh boy... 👀

I wonder what happens when you mix the two... oh, behold

The Sinophobic Tankie? (There are white male foreigners that shills for CCP while simultaneously has horrible Chinese language skills and looks down on the actual average Chinese people, especially that they look down on those that don't speak English, and also has Asian fetish and are mysogynistic towards Chinese women... aka: the "sexpats")

  • Given how much "guilluotine memes" are on here...

no, this is not a "billionaire platform"

  • I DID IT

    now its the waiting game...

lets hope the state department (of the USA) doesn't um... you know... "accidentally lose" my proof of citizenship...

    👀

(Orange is Sus btw, pls eject the imposter)

  • The only reason why they had to do the plane crashing on the ground is because it's #TooSoon... (cuz... you know...)

  • Myanmar is now one of world's top producer of opium post-Afghanistan decline. Despite myanmar having direct borders with China and India , I can't find any drug crises there unlike fentanyl in US?

So to rephrase: "Why aren't there a bunch of drugs getting into China/India and causing a drug addiction problem?"

    Idk about India but:

Lmfao, you'd get disowned and kicked out if you got a drug addiction in a Chinese family... and then nobody would wanna associate with you...

Plus... a lot of surveillance cameras

Instead, people (usually males) go drinking alcohol and gambling (illegal in mainland, so they go to Macau (and maybe HK? idk if they have casinos)), also apparantly smoking (tobacco that is, since weed is illegal btw) is widespread... I'm so lucky that my dad doesn't drink or gamble, oh btw I heard from a Fujianese classmate (in the US) that (if I remember correctly) apparantly his dad got into a fight in a bar and so that got him deported...

Also, if someone dies of drug overdose, that's very shameful for the family so sometimes they get the person doing the autopsy (the coroner? mortician? or whatever you all it) or some government official to label it as "accident" or maybe "accidental poisoning" (via connections (GuanXi) and/or via bribery)

Suicide is also shameful so sometime they also get labeled as "accident" to avoid shame to the family.

    (I'm Chinese Diaspora)

  • As a germophobe: What the fuck?

Like I hear stories about kids (in the US) eating lunch in the toilet stall... like... is that actually a thing or just a myth?

  • Nvm, sorry to bother you.

  • Lets be honest, most humans do not view pets as equals to a human. Valuing our own species over others is just part of our biology. (not saying that I agree with this view)

If people had the legal responsibility to keep paying thousands or tens of thousands (or potentially more) to keep a pet alive at its senior years, then like... I bet like 50% of pet owners will either become bankrupt or go to jail for animal cruelty.

Laws are just written with humans prioritized... I mean.. humans have healthcare¹, pets do not.

A human in an emergency situation arriving in a hospital, and they are legally required to give treatment even if the person cannot pay at the time¹, a vet can legally refuse to treat a pet in an emergency until the owner pays (not saying that would refuse, but they could).

    (¹restrictions apply, varies by country)

One could argue that if euthanasia is legal, then there would be situations of: "Hey, granny is kinda taking too much resouces... maybe we should just pull the life support?" or "Okay my child has cancer and takes up too much of my money, and all this money would be wasted if the treatment fails, I'm gonna talk to the doctor and end this parasite once and for all"

  • More like a c/NoStupidQuestions post than a YSK

Also: OP Username is literally a romanization of 李洪志 founder of Falun Gong (but with Lee instead of Li)

    🤣

You know you can be against CCP without joining a weird "religious movement"

  • Alt Universe: "My name is Edward Snowden and oopsie I forgot to start the anonymization program and now CIA agents are waiting for me at the airport"

  • 75 Million people on the watchlist

Are they gonna shoot them all?

  • If you have no morals, and if you're in USA, you can give them ads for your local gun shop 💀

(/joke, pls don't do this lol)

  • Not exactly an answer but:

No joke, when I was 8 years old, my family left the China for the first time and then I saw some food item in a store in the Korean airport costing something like 15,000 of a currency, I was like holy shit are all foreigners this rich?

Then my dad told me its just a different currency, its actually just equivalent to something like $10 美金 "American Money" (USD)...

Which I also didn't understand what it meant, before that incident, the Chinese Yuan / Renminbi was the only thing I knew of...

So for a while, its was just the adult's weird magic numbers to me lol...

I think some people just never left their country before and never learned about stuff, maybe their parents are also ignorant and never taught them anything.

And the English Language Defaultism probably arises from it being widely taught and so many countries use it like Canada, UK, Australia... and lot of the colonized countries still retained it like India... and its the probably most commonly taught languahe in non-anglosphere countries... So, some English-speaking people just made a false assumption about the world...

  • Technically not a rule lol

  • actually not legal to interrogate people that long

Japanese Legal System have joined the chat

(Also South Korea and China... 👀)

  • Still hoping for those obituaries in the front page... iykyk 🤫

  • I mean, let's say the person said something like: "It wasn't me, they [framed me / they got the wrong person / etc...]"

I mean people do get wrongfully convicted... but who do you believe? The courts, or this person claiming innocence who might actually be telling the truth (but you can't really verify it)? That's the crux of this problem.

  • For that I'm gonna need to make a WeChat account...

Might need to use a separate phone for opsec purposes 👀 (you know why)

Feels like too much of a hassle... and like its not like I feel safe to just speak freely...

Mom and older brother is going back to visit (like right now), and mom told me to not send her any political stuff or she'll block me...

Like I'm just so used to how things work in the west, I'm gonna have to run every sentence through my brain like can I actually say this and not get them in trouble

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

  • Showerthoughts @lemmy.world

Its very possible that if my mom posted her side if the story about me on here, all the comments would just side with her and saying that I'm the useless piece of shit and being a burden...

I don't really feel anything when I see romance in the media, but my heart melts when I see wholesome parent-child relations, especially if the parent is shown to be willing to sacrifice.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Parents, how would you feel if your children get anxious around you / afraid of you?

  • Showerthoughts @lemmy.world

Ceasefires agreements always seem to start in a future date/time... it must be awkward to look at the watch and be like "the ceasefire hasn't begun yet, KEEP SHOOTING!"

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Do you feel distressed and like have an identity crisis when you have moments of your life that you can't remember? (especially childhood)

  • Off My Chest @lemmy.world

I wish I could relive the experience as my mom's adorable little boy again... those were some of my most wholesome memories...

Immigrants who fail are treated as "foreign peasants that live off welfare", but the moment an immigrant succeeds, they are now an "evil capitalist".

  • No Stupid Questions @lemmy.world

  • Showerthoughts @lemmy.world

As an immigrant I wonder a lot about the alternate timeline where I never migrated... I wonder if kids who got adopted feel a similar way... the "what if I got different parents" timeline...
