Hello, my name is Cris. :)

I like being nice to people on the internet and looking at cool art stuff

  • Its possible she just grabbed the wrong link, or mixed up the link for different posts. She posts a lot (which we appreciate!)

  • I think there are ways to forward emails?

When I switched to Tutanota I just kept my old account and moved stuff over as I decided it was important.

So now my gmail is mostly for spam and companies I don't trust lol

  • From experience they pretty much never do groups like k pop demon hunter, where the connection is just that they're part of the same name of something

They've done like words from an expression or tongue twister, but I feel like I've only really ever seen the name of some movie or media property as a red herring. I feel like it's not abstract enough that the designers would go for it.

I've never heard of complex as a centaur, and a google didn't turn anything up, is that a thing...?

This one went pretty smoothly for me, I was surprised to see it was a really hard 5/5

  • For general users, updates changing things is pretty much never an issue, which is why typical end users always use the word "stable" to convey it's more colloquial meaning of "not going to break on me", rather than the technical definition sys admins use it to describe.

If arch didn't have breaking changes I don't think users would ever really mind it being rolling release, which is how you get the term "stable rolling release" for rolling distros that hold updates for long enough to generally prevent breakage, like void or tumbleweed

To the original commenter's point, as a more design and ux person I think being able to do unattended upgrades and not get any errors or stuff you have to fix is kinda important. Which is why I find it a tad irksome when technical folks act like everyone and their grandma should run arch cause it's never given them issues. It is awesome that it sounds like it's improved so much though!

Maybe I'll try arch some time and see if I've progressed enough to not find managing my system a bit more bothersome

  • That's usually what I'm doing too, from like 28 to 35

  • How often are you supposed to check the blog?

Edit: probably every time you're about to do an update, sorry I'm sleepy lol

  • Lol, totally understandable

I hate loud stuff so for me it's a tradeoff either way. And I really hate things that are loud 😅

  • Yeah, I mostly just meant in terms of how much I directly relate with the perspectives of the protesters, it seemed at the time of my comment like most of the commenters looked at things somewhat differently to them (which is fine)

I do think you might really be underestimating how deeply addictive tech can be for many people. For people who grew up on platforms like facebook, Instagram, and twitter, and spent enough time there before reflecting on that pattern, those deeply engrained habits can be difficult to shake to the extent of causing not insignificant anxiety

I had social anxiety as a kid (still do) and so used those platforms almost none because they stressed me out (until I joined reddit in highschool), and even I really struggle with some amount of technology addiction I'm working really hard to replace with better patterns.

I pick my phone up and check all the apps for no reason. I feel a bit anxious if my phone isn't near by. I run out of time in one app I have a time limit set for and immediately jump to another one. I feel a bit stressed when I have to put it down. Not intensely so, but the more I pay attention the more I can tell it's there and see how it's molded my behavioral patterns over time.

I have pretty good solutions to those problems, and think I'm making decent progress, but technology absolutely 1000% has warped my life to be about it. With me often serving it rather than it serving me. I can only imagine how difficult it might be for folks who spent lots of time on those platforms, and are less inclined to tinker with their tech and play with open source stuff, and take alternative technological routes

  • Woaahhhh, who could have done this???? Why is there a bullet hole in my foot???

    He says, gun in hand.

  • I mean even ignoring ads, the ui for the official reddit app is an abject dumpster fire, and lacks core functionality like moderation tools

As much as I loath advertising, the ads really weren't the biggest issue with the official app 😅. The nonsensical tangled-web-of-spaghetti layout, dogshit ux, and inability to provide core functionality needed by some of its most vital users were

  • That is a perspective or lens through which to look at the issue that I wouldn't have considered, thank you for sharing your experience

  • I mean engaging with someone's problems and trying to "help" with them can be a form of care or affection.

I think both you and the post are 1000% right. I do wish society was able to have larger and less dysfunctional conversation around the issues men face.

They are not the persistent threat of danger that women deal with, but cultural norms around men, masculinity, and how they're treated are also deeply toxic and do a huge amount of harm.

  • My impression was always that the biggest issue is needing to pay attention to, and sometimes intervene in updates, is that not a thing with arch anymore?

  • This is probably not the solution most people would pick but honestly I just use my manual bike pump lol

I already had it, and it works just fine with a little effort. No batteries, no cables, no electronics. Just a pump. It's been working pretty alright for me

Sedan tires are probably quite a bit smaller than truck tires though, so pumping might get more tiring (hah :P)

Otherwise honestly this might be a thing where most decent options would hold up okay. Myself, I'd be looking harbor freight reviews to see if folks think their options are reliable (I'm very broke lol. Which is why bike pump lol)

I hope you find a good solution!

  • There were kids in it...? Christ :(

  • Their icon is cute af, I hadn't seen it before lol

  • Same, though I was a connect user. To think they could have made everyone way less angry if they just had an app that isn't dogshit 😅

  • Yeah, I really should have done the same, instead I burned all my guesses lol
