  • Lots of enthusiasm in this thread, but no mention of what Brian Becker's actual goal is: voting out the republicans and triggering a widespread elevation of consciousness among the settler population via protesting and posting online. PSL is just one of his ideological Pokemon lol. Is... anyone even aware of what he says on his own show? Go watch his show right now, preferably one with Mike Prysner crying about the poor little veterans having to spill their precious blood in Iraq. It's fun! Just imagine how ballistic Marx would have gone listening to the radio. Makes me clean and cook like a kind of reverse-tornado.

If it means anything, yes I love that documentary too, everything about it, one of the first things that really transported me into what it would be like to endure a torture center. Something about the depressed lawyer with his crappy paper cup of coffee just pulls me in. I have also made a lot of assumptions about what the PSL is and enthusiastically debunked harebrained MLM/anarchist smears against them.

The issue with why all these orgs have such a tolerance for informant behavior like sexually assaulting people will have to be left for another time, so maybe it is best for me not to even mention it, because it is a topic of the utmost severity and must be approach throroughly and comprehensively.

  • Logseq. It works with Markdown or Org. Joplin is fine but I've moved away from it for Orgzly Revived + Logseq mobile/Emacs Orgmode + Logseq desktop all integrated with each other to do some stuff Logseq and Orgzly cannot do alone.

You will not find a better option honestly I love my tools. Tried a lot of things and this is one that will grow with you and never overwhelm you if you respect it.

Particularly nice to be able to smoothly turn Logseq/Orgmode stuff into LaTeX stuff and use Emacs Zotero integrations. I can publish professional-level papers and articles of pretty much any kind, from the same system where I work on Minecraft mods and remind myself to do house chores so my wife thinks I am a genius (because I am). I could write an entire textbook with it. It feels like being forced to use a revolver for years, and then switching to an AR platform.

  • I have been Assadmaxxing for years, but it is important to note that he was giving speeches on epic Baathist third way-ism up until like a week before everything went to hell. His government's refusal to engage on a higher level with Russia and China was a major error. It was based on old school Cold War thinking about maintaining sovereignty.

  • The tech dystopia is essentially a gigantic mattress which they can shove fake money into, but their ability to do this is entirely dependent on the attractiveness of the US dollar, one of the main things Iran is obliterating right now.

  • The podcast is essentially verbal Twitter reposts. As soon as it was recommended to me in 2023 I looked up Ukraine on their site and found they had promoted a fake communist group which didn't much seem to mind the other groups getting thrown into vans in sacks or the massacre in Donbas. Haven't tried to listen to many more of them. You should always do this with people's podcast recommendations. The bar is phenomenally low, for some reason.

  • I was what TuringPolice described as "the guy [finding out] Rojava is bad in 2017" but by 5 months into my post-Obama era I started reading about the fascist international + litany of US war crimes including Taiwan's fascism. Big sandtrap that stood in the way of Marxism-Leninism for me was critical American history people that project the dynamics of the US on the world stage or its internal politics onto other countries as if they are universal. It does give you this sense of seeing behind the veil which can be self-defeating. Same people would never have predicted Mossad would fail in Iran like this.

  • IIRC nobody has even seen Öcalan for years, right? Could the Turkish government be pulling a Weekend at Bernie's kind of deal or coercing him? Seems weird they followed his decisionmaking under such duress.

  • Exactly my issue with using it for most stuff other than programming, scripting, and other text processing. DeepSeek's a much more useful tool than Silicon Valley stuff but no matter how many times you tell it Naomi Klein is a bad writer, her saturation in the alternative media around some subjects makes it bring her up repeatedly. This seems like something that could be partly fixed by removing copyright limitations, but that's not going to change the situation where clarifying bad publishers & think tanks & stances is little better than the "don't make any mistakes Claude" meme.

  • Indeed it is how I found this. Just to clarify, if it seemed I was addressing the room instead of muttering about CPUSA.

  • To be expected from people who side with the KKE on Ukraine
