I like bickering about useless nonsense with people who most definitely will not be changing their minds. Yes, I know it's a waste of time. No, I don't plan on stopping.

🇨🇦 (He/Him)

  • Yep, I think I just tend to mentally clump them together with the west as a whole tbh. That’s on me tho

  • No, that’s very much a part of why it’s considered taboo. Obviously there’s a wide range of difference in cultural opinion of what’s considered “okay” to eat, but dogs have still been with humans for the longest out of any domesticated animal. They’ve literally evolved to eat diets more like our own. It’s completely intuitive that there would be such vehement opposition to eating an animal we’re so historically close to, even if it’s mostly on a cultural basis.

  • Israel and its citizens are mistakes, and it's high time we fix that mistake.

Bloodthirsty vibes from this aside, Israel and its warmonger culture is working exactly as it was intended from the start. At best it’s just a caricaturized version of the US, which makes sense considering both of those countries’ intimate ties since the beginning.

“Solve” Israel and all anyone is doing is cutting off a branch when the rot starts at the roots. It would pretty much be a textbook example of the scapegoat mechanism. Obviously they aren’t innocent of anything, but solely removing their influence out of the equation will never change anything substantial.

  • There’s a multitude of ways to correct someone without coming off as a pedantic prick in the process

  • I find it strange how you’re getting downvoted, since there’s so much evidence to back up your point. There’s literally a whole page on Wikipedia that goes over the human-canine bond and how it’s unique.

    Some points it brings up:

studies have demonstrated that both dogs and humans release oxytocin while spending quality time together.

Canines are capable of distinguishing between positive and negative human facial expressions and will react accordingly.

Psychologists believe that the relationship between human and canine is a bidirectional attachment bond, which resembles that of the typical human caretaker/infant relationship, and shows all of the usual hallmarks of a typical bond.

Canines are capable of assessing humans' emotional states, as well as discriminating humans by levels of familiarity.

Studies have demonstrated that shelter dogs benefit from interacting with complete strangers…These results demonstrate the canines' innate desire to form an attachment with a human

  • You didn't, silly. You said being gay isn't illegal, which sure, is conditionally true, but neither was being a free black person in post-slavery America, and yet we hopefully both know how that demographic was treated then, if not even now.

Besides, my goal isn't to address something you did before me, but to point out how, intentionally or not, you're leaving out very important info that lays out the mis-or-disinformative nature of your point. You can't talk about the quality of a book if you've only read a single chapter.

Anyway, feel free to continue implying something along the lines of me being on the payroll of the all-powerful capitalist oligarchs of the world or something. It'll really help your point.

  • you cannot make pornography. That's the only rule

Nope, that’s categorically false in every possible way, even if we’re being pedantic. For the sake of informing those who might have been misled by this (since I have little doubt you’re being intentionally disingenuous as campists often are) Here’s a couple relevant excerpts from the Wikipedia article on LGBTQ rights in China:

[LGBTQ] people in the People's Republic of China (PRC) face legal and social challenges that are not experienced by non-LGBTQ residents. While both male and female same-sex sexual activity are legal, same-sex couples are currently unable to marry or adopt, and households headed by such couples are ineligible for the same legal protections available to heterosexual couples. No explicit anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people are present in its legal system, nor do hate crime laws cover sexual orientation or gender identity.

Under Chinese Communist Party (CCP) general secretary Xi Jinping, LGBTQ venues and events have been forced to shut and LGBTQ rights activists have become subject to greater scrutiny by the country's system of mass surveillance. The CCP increasingly considers LGBTQ advocacy the work of "foreign forces”. LGBTQ content is censored. Authors of boys' love works are routinely arrested and criminally prosecuted.

  • Nintendo can just eat a dick, seriously. I’m gonna pirate their games to my heart’s content, they can throw as many little hissy fits as they want about it.

  • Nah, the world will be fine. It's just the human issue it has to deal with first.

  • Obligatory Dan Hentschel post

  • "far-left policies" and it's just basic humanitarian ideals

  • Meaning well and blasting the rsync maintainer with absolutist anti-LLM messages are very different things.

…Which is why I specified those who only mean well. Obviously that doesn’t include the less pleasant crowd.

  • I'm just imagining someone saying this in response to OP's joke at a party and this is the (natural) response

  • Fair, but a little empathy for rsync users who only mean well would go a long way. The everyone-for-themselves mentality doesn't tend to be very helpful most of the time, if ever.

  • I agree with that too, though I think the self-righteous attitude like that of the person I'm replying to swings in the opposite direction a little too hard for my liking. There's a happy balance, y'know?

People shouldn't complain in a dev's ear like they owe them something they never promised, and people trying to call that out shouldn't counter it with a demeaningly confrontational demeanour. Obviously that's a lot to ask for on the internet, but it's a good thing to try for at least.

  • Well rsync is a pretty integral utility for a whole array of software at this point, and I guarantee you that not all of its userbase has the expertise required for direct contributions. I don't think it's fair to write off the complaints of people like that as irrelevant, especially if they have a stake in rsync working well for them without having to worry about AI hallucinations screwing them over.
