  • Sometimes I just can't bring myself to be the bad guy, because either you get the worst possible ending (sorry, can't suspend my disbelief enough to believe bad people actually get bad ends) or it just goes over the top.

For instance, in one franchise you can be bad, but it's mostly rude comments, insults, maybe a couple betrayals here and there.... Then BOOM surprise you just shot a kid in the back of the head.

I'm all for being a bad guy but it has to be a well-written and iltelligent bad guy that actually rivals the good version, not just stupidly plodding through the worst possible choice "because a bad guy wouldn't care that he just crippled his fleet and lost the final battle, because he got mad that one of the admirals called him a hothead and crashed his ship into theirs"

Who am I kidding, the moment I betray someone I like, I'm going to bail and go back to being a good guy

  • Can they? Yes. Absolutely. 100%.

A local factory likes people with college degrees, any degree, no matter what college or course, but also offer tests twice a year in large groups for exactly the reason that plenty y of people are qualified, and can do everything they need, but never went to college.

Will they? Probably not unless it's a niche employer. Why bother going through the extra effort when you can just say "degrees only" and turn your nose up at anyone without one?

  • I remember when I could post to the firefly sub and banter with the same 20 or so people every week, then one day something hit the front page and a flood of people came in.

Everything turned from thought provoking discussions about what little lore we did have and overanalysing every episode, to "this is what the actors do now" and "here's an image with a quote from the show" maybe an art post of original content here and there.

  • 14 and change, it definitely had multiple, noticeable shifts.

And if you didn't notice, you probably only stuck to a handful of communities, because they changed how the front page works several times, and what communities are default. All of those changed the feel by a lot.

Each change may not have affected each sub equally hard, default subs turned to shit, subs that got turned off of default finally got the reality check they needed, and when they started banning entire subs, there were noticeably less shitty people from time to time as they pruned.

Again, if you stuck to smaller subs, or even mid sized ones but didn't interact a ton, or just didn't log on every day, I could see how you may not have noticed.

They definitely ramped up moderation, and the administration got a lot more heavy-handed over the last few years, clearly (in hindsight) in preparation for the big change last year.

  • John Cartwheel couldn't do what he did without AElfred Rüning being the first person to figure out how to run in the early 9th century.

YOU try doing a Cartwheel without Running first.

  • I mean, I would love for all that money to go to things that help people directly, instead of "big scary stick to keep other people from maybe hitting us with their sticks at some theoretical point in the future"

Buuuuut honestly when it comes to it's nuclear arsenal, I just assume all government contracts will eventually be 150%-200% over budget, with at least 3 committees assembled to investigate the expense.

  • Are.... Are you joking?

    Google wasn't around back then.

They would have had to use something like infoseek or aliweb

SMH my head, people just don't know their history

  • One head gets chopped off, two new ones spawn.

    HAIL HYDRA

  • There is a red-tailed hawk that roams around my area, and every time we hear it, my wife rolls her eyes and goes "I KNOW it's not an eagle" because of how many times I would mention it whenever the screech would play on TV or movies.

  • When I was in highschool I was home alone at an apartment complex, already riddled with anxiety, and would never answer the door.

Cops started banging on the door one day and it sounded like they switched to kicking at one point. Bellowing about how they'll arrest anyone inside unless we open up.

They went around back and started banging on the glass sliding door when it didn't slide open, which would of course have been claimed to be open the whole time I'm sure.

The management office across the street had left minutes beforehand, and one yelled about getting the keys, went over to bang on that door too.

After about half an hour of me frantically trying to get a response from my sister or parents, the former ignoring me because higshcool siblings, the latter were on a date night, they got really quiet and all hurried away. I assume someone finally realized they were in the wrong place. Were it any other situation I would have had things handled, but I was not prepared for cops.

Management got pissy about the boot scuffs all over the white door, and refused to believe it was cops since "police don't make mistakes" (whitest boomer Karen you've never seen said this) and demanded we pay for the damage. My parents stuck by my story. Ultimately management just repainted everyone's doors and trim a month later so it didn't matter.

    ACAB/ALLAB Combo right there.

  • I also like to go with "Cosmically, nothing we ever do will amount to more than the life of a fly, so the end result is the same."

    It doesn't go over well...

  • Next time someone says that, respond with "wow, so fuck anyone with brain issues that keep them from forming memories the same way you do, right? Guess grandpa Rick doesn't care about my family since his accident, huh."

you having a grandpa Rick, or family to speak of, is irrelevant. The point is, it forces them to confront the fact that there are many reasons someone might forget a thing. They'll probably still be shift about it, but at least when they've unbunched their loads, they might think twice before immediately concluding the other person sucks for forgetting a thing.

Maybe I'm being optimistic with that, but I don't appreciate when people try to assign my motives to me, instead of understanding my own, and get confrontational when that happens.

  • I still say that, knowing fully damn well that it probably was important and I going to feel like shit later for forgetting.

  • I'm confident half of my highschool debate team could wipe the floor with Trump, including the ones who quit because it was boring to them.

But can they wipe the floor, AND get elected?

The sad reality is that is our choice.

Eat a shit sandwich, or let the entire house get set on fire.

There's a secret third option, but most are too comfortable with their lives. ✊✊🏻✊🏽✊🏿

  • Yeah but I don't want to be pretty all the time, so.... checkmate, atheists?

  • As long as you rake in the cash quick enough, you can be rich before anyone realized that you're the problem.

And now you've got money to pay people to beat them into submission when they complain.

  • Well, depending on who you ask, a protest from a westerner is invalid simply because it's a westerner.

Doesn't even matter if it's supporting a "non-westerner" cause, because then you're just another colonizing westerner appropriating something you couldn't possibly undertand. Regardless of your actual understanding, of course.

I really don't know what the OP comment is even trying to say, it just comes off as weirdly confrontational.

  • And if you take a hit to performance (you will) you might get fired! And then all that was for nothing.

Honestly I think if that happened to me I'd fire the building. From existence.

  • "Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice"

What do you even do if your office gets burned and melted by a volcano? Do you take a week "off" and all meet up in a new space? Do you look for a new job? Like damn, if the warehouse I work in burned down I'd be completely out of a job unless I can move 1,000 miles away.

  • The last time it got above 95 where I live, I was a child, nobody went outside that week, and everyone was complaining that it was the hottest days they've ever felt there.

It's already happened 3 times this year. Once in "winter". All of this week has been above 95.

This is the hottest year of your life....

    Every year.

    Until you die.

    Potentially of heat-related conditions.
