    I know startrek.website tracks individual comments and posts, but not overall. So I would have to go back and check each individual comment and add up the total if I cared to find out how many points I have accumulated.

    I know some don't track any at all.

    I know lemmy.world tracks at least comment votes.

    I understand that a basic point system allows people to sort comments a little easier, but it really can reinforce echo chambers.

    I am guilty of often sorting posts with dozens of comments by top vote ranking, but I try to just do oldest to newest comments.

  • Last time I was near an apartment fire, the fire department didn't even waste time asking the crowd if anyone could move the car or figuring out if another hydrant was near, they just pulled in, lined the fire engine bumper up with the SUV, and pushed it fully out of the way of the hydrant. Tires all fucked up and one popped on the curb.

  • I am someone who is interested in rc planes, multirotors, and automation in general. Not an expert by any measure, but have some experience.

    A hybrid quad-rotor/plane would be much better for this. They can VTOL, hover, do all the quadcopter stuff, but there's still the usual plane motors to push the whole thing forward. The wings provide tons of lift and reduce the overall power usage of the system. Have it circle above an area until you don't need the pop-up mesh network.

    I've seen a few content creators like rctestflight make full solar planes, running ardupilot to fly way point missions and circle around for as long as possible.

    Combining the two might reduce the overall efficiency when compared to either separately, I imagine the extra grams from the mesh radios would still allow for very long flight times.

    So theoretically you should be able to toss a couple out that can circle overhead and act as super long line-of-sight relays and provide coverage over a huge area, all of which couod be deployed and packed up in minutes.

  • For my regular headphones, not much. I can use the buttons on them to cycle through sound modes (no modification, sound canceling, and external mics) as well as the normal things like switch volumes, tracks etc.

    Once I got the update, I deleted the app and got an older one. If they make it mandatory somehow, I'll just not use the app and get different brand headphones when these break.

    The president and his cabinet don't arbitrarily decide names. There are actual procedures to go about doing so.

    Alternatively if you feel like it doesn't matter since theyre all going along with it, I feel like the DOD and Gulf of Mexico are two of the very few entities it's okay to deadname, along with Twitter.

    bring any violations to the UN security council (which was done, but with Russia having veto power, useless)

    Most people I speak to have the impression that any attack on Ukraine meant the US would jump into full scale war mode to defend them. Honestly I wish it were. At least then it would have been harder for the Biden administration to essentially ignore.

    "here's a bunch of old equipment, good luck buddy" was technically more than required, but grossly inadequate.

  • I imagined it more like "the show is now your real life" but definitely didn't specify "not becoming an actor to play a part" but yeah.

    Iwas envisioning something like Firefly, the Expanse (but less dangerous) or literally any game where the plot involves you being on a small cargo-capable ship with light guns and tons of questionable illegal mods.

    Let's be honest, I was picturing the Millennium Falcon...
