  • YouTube became weirdly positive and fake a while ago, I actually think the mega cesspit of YouTube comments hasn't been reality for a few years now.

I can't tell if that's because the Gen Z online communication style is to celebrate everything, which is nice, or because there's an algorithm in place somewhere to make the comments more marketable, which is lame.

  • The biggest thing I'm looking forward to in the fediverse is integration like this, I'm not tech savvy enough to know if it's viable but open source software that's designed to communicate with other instances feels like a perfect place for things like this to develop.

Ikeeo seeing things on Peertube, Lemmy and Masterdon that would suit integration with eachother, particularly when it comes to showing the Lemmy comment system under other parts of the fediverse.

  • I do feel that slowly, edition by edition, D&D is moving closer to it's recourse management being tied to it's round based action economy which I actually enjoy.

As a player, it's already pretty easy to play this way, before counting subclasses, the rogue has literally no abilities that are limited by anything but once per turn, and if you pick some fun narrative spells as warlock and rely on invocations and eldritch blast, you can be totally effective without any resource management. Both of these exclude hitpoints of course but that is a pretty reasonable resource for a combat focussed fantasy game.

  • With GTAV, the original release was 2013, the next gen was 2014 and PC 2015 so I forsee it being the same and being even later.

The upside was that the PC port was really good at release and I'm pretty indifferent to if I pick this game up in 2030 when it's actually a good value on PC.

  • I paid for star citizen a decade ago and honestly enjoyed it enough for about 2 days. It always felt exciting to see how ahead they were of early Xbox 1 / PS4 games in their scope with volumetric effects etc.

The trouble is, 90% of their innovative content has been long overtook by general game progression, they're making a game that could have probably launched with the PS5 and been innovative and are already falling behind there. I genuinely believe that they were Innovating their game slowly over time and there were amazing things in the works, but they missed the moment that it was exciting and new by so many years.

  • I stumbled across this the other week while trying to find the name of the book invisible cities and gave it a watch because the trailer reminded me of Disco Elysium.

Without knowing the original novel, I thought it was really compelling and entertaining, with my only major critique being the pacing of the final episode, but equally 4 episodes is such an easy commitment that I'd absolutely recommend the show if you aren't in the mood to pick up a book.

  • My main use of Reddit was distilled to Roleplaying games like D&D and I'd only browse all to mindlessly doomscroll. Reddit was the best place (in my opinion) for this communication because it has both the userbase and the structure for massive topical conversation.

I'm not returning to reddit but the lack of content in those circles here has actually dampened my passion for that entire world. I literally listen to 6-10 hours of podcasts per week on tabletop role-playing games, plus I read countless blogs and I'm practically up to date with all related content that comes from Lemmy or Masterdon, but it's not the same, there is no deep discussion like what I used to have.

I'm not totally doing my part, for every 50 things I read here, I comment once maybe, but still.

  • I've noticed that people still use chav for women, which is probably because roadmen is a gendered term anyway. But also the fact that's it's more gendered has helped with it's reclaimation slightly. I've met people who proudly have a 'chav aesthetic', which is no worse than most of the other 2000s aesthetics.

  • Not quite a logo but a symbol, but symbolically rotary phones and floppy discs have become the symbols of calling and saving respectively. There are plenty of other symbols that also draw their symbolism from obselete things.

  • I used to love doing a weird automated laboratory under my classic farm, but yeah it did suck out the fun once I could reliably do it again and again.

I used to specifically farm the ingredients for pumpkin pie, this was just after hoppers and repeaters were added which meant you could use those and pistons to make an automatic egg collector, sugare cane breaker and pumpkin breaker. I'd build the most picturesque farm with a secret trapdoor somewhere that would lead to my food automation zone. I haven't really played properly since 2017 though, with a brief comeback in 2020.

  • I'm not sure I agree with the take for farenheit. It's an arbitraty choice, and to me who grew up in a country that uses celsius, I find that far easier to understand and farenheit may as well be random numbers to me.
