A little of many, and a lot of very few.

  • Not me still using the nalgenes despite all the ways they're objectivley bad.

  • Yo, are we getting some motherfucking beans over here?

  • Yeah I can see all those things too. I left reddit because it was too big and loud over there, and secretly I hope this place never has exponential growth. The quality of interactions here is so much higher and I think that it is directly because of being a smaller community. I know that not everyone shares that view though and most people would be glad to see many more users here. Still you are right that receiving fewer votes will be discouraging for some, and that will have a cooling effect.

  • PJ has proven themselves to be a community minded individual. Yes they have strongly held world views but not ones that are fringe, especially here. There will be instances that defederate instances of a single power user like that but maybe that isn't the worst outcome. I like having PJ here, I think they are cool. But also they are undeniably a power user which extract more of a cost for hosting than an average soul. Not trying to make it sound like any easy task to get an instance going, but that is kind of my point. The effort put into making things work justify decisions pertaining to that instance. Rimu does a lot of work to provide us all a service and I think that entitles them to more control than the rest of us have.

  • Seems to me one of the nice things about the fediverse is that, if a user really wants things their own way, they can host themselves on it independently.

  • Yeah, at best you could frame this as an experiment in trying to keep things small. The conflicting reasoning given makes me think there wasn’t a terrible amount of forethought to this decision and perhaps it was guided more by a strong hunch.

  • Personally, I comment far more than I vote and I tend to agree with Rimu that a comment is far more engaging than a vote is. Still, I like receiving as many votes as I can when I do comment or post.

  • Reminds me of how ferrets sleep.

  • Man, probably takes years to get that good at fellatio.

  • It is optional in that each piefed instance can choose to turn it off, but its not per user.

  • Yeah, I can't seem to see what it accomplishes except to make the few users that reach it kinda mad. It seems like an experiment at best to see what kind of effect it will have on hot/all.

  • No, just over a set period of time.

  • There is a new rule metering the number of votes that can be cast by a user. You can see yours on your profile.

  • My neighbors had a pit that hated other dogs. My sister brought her dog over and it escaped the backyard and jumped through an empty screen door to attack her. I was right there on the porch though and got the dog by the collar. As soon as I got it away from my sister's dog, it was wagging tail and happy face. Pit bulls are capable of intense focus when they have identified "prey." Most dog owners are not equipped to deal with the reality of training a dog like that. Luckily I only got grazed in that altercation.

  • Lol, Labradors are not easy dogs. They are very friendly, but they need a lot of outlet for their boundless energy and constant direction or they become misbehaved. Every other poodle I ever met was undertrained and misbehaved too.

  • According to Wikipedia (I understand the irony here) dogsbite dot org has been accused of publishing misleading and inaccurate information. However, pit bulls are terriers and terriers don't let go when they bite. Most terriers are small ratting dogs where this doesn't matter so much.

  • Maybe it is better expressed as degree of control you have over the data on your drive, disk, whatever. When you choose to buy a game from steam, especially if it is on a website like GOG, you are choosing to have less control over your data. With large companies like Sony moving towards anti-consumer practices, it isn’t wise to believe that valve would never do the same.

  • Tekinukly. Software might still come with a license, but that license has no teeth without some form of DRM. This is a stupid way to try justifying the DRM steam has. In all practicality, you own whats downloaded to your drives without DRM.

  • Yup, that's my point.
