Plex (or Jellyfin) + Pangolin help needed

Evening 'hosters,

I have been banging my head against my desk all day and could use some help. I seem to be the only one with this issue, so I'll lay it out: I have a Pangolin instance hosted on a remote VPS with a Newt tunnel installed via Docker in a Debian 13 VM on my NAS. Within Docker, I have Plex, Jellyfin, and Overseerr (just for testing currently). All services are accessible via the LAN IP of the VM and their respective ports.

(Yes I know Plex is stinky, but my mom's gotta watch her shows.)

I have three resources set up in Pangolin for each service, pointed at the LAN IP of the VM, the port, and the correct Newt tunnel, with a corresponding https://service.domain.tld/ record in Pangolin. Overseerr works flawlessly, without any additional input. Plex and Jellyfin, however, does not work. The resource monitoring module on Pangolin remains "unhealthy," and neither service can be accessed remotely.

Here is how the Pangolin resource is configured:

4get: Any tips for replacing the default banner ?

Edit! I’ll answer to past me, because apparently he was blind: https://git.lolcat.ca/lolcat/4get/src/branch/master/docs/docker.md#custom-banners

Hi all,

I’m running the official Docker image of 4get. The homepage shows the default “4get” banner, while I’ve seen other instances with custom banners.

I’d like to replace it with my own image. Has anyone here figured out the best way to do this with the prebuilt Docker image? Mounting a volume ? Rebuilding the image. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I’m asking here because I can’t contact the maintainer directly. The Git repository is closed for new accounts due to bot attacks. So I hope someone in the community might know.

Thanks in advance!

HandBrakeCLI (via ARM) incorrectly marking first subtitle track as "Forced"

EDIT: Oh my god, sorry, I'm an idiot who forgot that the Jellyfin subtitles setting menu had a save button you needed to press. ALSO, Simultaneously, I posted this earlier than I intended; I thought to myself "OK I'll try this one last thing and if that doesn't work then I'll give up and ask for help", and then went and wrote this post while I waited for the DVD to rip - and then I went and posted it as soon as I was done writing, without waiting for the one last attempt to finish. It turns out that removing the --subtitle scan flag fixes the problem. So I double shouldn't have posted this. Sorry for taking up your time, I saw an option to hide this post so I think I'll be doing that now.

First, this doesn't seem like quite the right community to post this in, but I couldn't find a better fitting one on Lemmy, and I'd prefer not to dust off my Reddit account if I don't have to. If you know of somewhere better for me to post this please let me know

Preparing to upgrade to windows 11. Have a bitestick and a punching bag but need advice.

Due to CAD/CAM and the nature of my industry, I'm stuck with windows on my daily driver for the foreseeable future. (Been using Linux since Ubuntu was new, have multiple servers and old chromebooks running different flavors.)

I've been putting off dealing with this. Goatfucking bullshit pain in my dick. Ffffffuck me right in the ass. I would happily slit Clippy's throat right in front of his little paperclip children and sleep like a baby.

Can I pretty please get recommendations on upgrading to 11 and unfucking it as much as possible? Comfortable editing the registry, using the command line, and monkeying with the BIOS. Anybody know of a good guide for neutering all the AI shit, copliot, onedrive nagging?

*Edit - Solved:

Thank you all very much! This is the advice I was looking for.

How to set up Linux for gaming on GIGABYTE G5 MF?

Hi all, I'd like some help with setting up Linux for gaming, I'm not a new user but I'm not expert either, I've been having problems with my current setup, before I had Bazzite 42 which worked perfectly, however I was afraid things would eventually break over with that layering thing, since I use some things like Pale Moon which has a dependency that needs to be layered (IIRC it was libdbus), MEGAsync, ZeroTier and Kvantum, all of which have to be installed to the system, so I switched to openSUSE TW (both distros using KDE Plasma 6 on Wayland session), which was been working excellently so far... well, except for one thing:

For some backstory and context (you can skip this paragraph): the computer I've been running these distros on is a GIGABYTE G5 MF with 16GB of RAM, which I bought back on May/2024 and it had winblows 11 Home, it was my fault not knowing I should've chosen a laptop with AMD hardware ins

Would a cheap, used raspberry pi 3 make for a good test server for following random self hosted tutorials?

Update:

I want to thank everyone who weighed in in the comments. Based on your feedback, I've decided to hunt for good deals by searching for usff, mini pc, and/or thin client on used marketplaces. Looks like I should be able to nab something very serviceable for my purposes for around $50 no problem. Again, this is not for a production environment, just something I can throw on the corner of my desk and kinda forget that it's there except when I want to follow some random tutorial on the internet.

For those who suggested I use VMs for this, I hear ya. However, I'd like to get as close as possible to the real deal (bare metal if you will) so that I don't have to futz around w/ passing through graphics or networking or anything like that. Tbh configuring VMs properly is almost more difficult for me than just working on a spare bare metal unit.

Thanks again!

How do I fixed my borked BIOS screen?

I'm not sure when or how, but one day when I plugged my monitor back into the graphics port my BIOS screen looked like this.

Everything is fine when I boot into the OS.

I read that updating the BIOS could fix this, but to no avail.

Not sure what info would be relevant here but here are some basics:

  • ROG Strix 760-I Gaming Wifi running Version 1825 BIOS
  • Nvidia 4080
  • Kubuntu
  • Odessey G9 Ultrawide

EDIT - SOLUTION

Turns out the monitor was using display Port Version 1.4; when I switched this to v1.2 everything went back to normal

**EDIT - Thanks! **

I wanted to say thanks to everyone who put eyes on this and offered testing ideas, I'm glad I was able to stumbled to a solution that was prompoted by some of the ideas in here (even though the solution may not seem connected initially to anything stated).

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I was messing arround trying to customize my desktop and i followed a guide on how to install and setup latte-dock (kde). Long story short, i failed removed latte (although I think it may have left some stuff behind) and when I restored my cinnamon panel the icon was like this. I've already restored the system with timeshift but it made no difference and tried to set "symbolic icon size" in panel settings but it completely ignores it. I googled for a solution but cant find any :c

Any ideas?

P.S. If I set panel height too small, all the applet icons go halfway off screen through the bottom, something they didnt used to do.

SOLVED: Using this comand:

gsettings reset-recursively org.cinnamon

Reverts the icons to their normal behaviour. Thanks to potatoguy

Why is there no .gz.tar?

A .tar archive is basically only the files cat'ed together, with a header and index added, right?

And a .tar.gz takes forever to modify, because it needs to first extract the .tar.

So why is there no archive format that just cat'es the compressed files together?

Running native linux games on lutris

I've been trying to run native linux games with lutris but can't get it to work. As far as ik, i can either use steam-app in my termianl, which works, or I can use nix-ld which i did setup and also works when running the game's executable from the terminal

I've setup nix-ld like so:

 nix

  programs.nix-ld = {
      enable = true;

      libraries = [(pkgs.runCommand "steamrun-lib" {}
  "mkdir $out; ln -s ${pkgs.steam-run.fhsenv}/usr/lib64 $out/lib")];
};

But for some reasons, when running the game's executable in lutris, it just fails instantly, and I'm kinda out of ideas, if anyone knows what to do that'd be real helpful please

Edit: Ok well apparently it just solved itself ??? I realized i could install lutis using programs.lutris.enable = true; instead of just putting it in home.packages, and apparently it fixed the issue. Idk why or how but ig if u use home manager, insall lutris like so

How to skirt websites that block known domains of email forwarding services?

Solved: Thanks to all who commented, especially those who took the time to respond to my follow-up questions. Your responses were enough to convince me of the value of buying a custom domain in order to keep one's true email address private w/ the added benefit of working on websites that block known domains of temp/forwarding service providers.

Key takeaways:

  • Forwarding services' shared domains are useful for blending in w/ the crowd. (credit to @Cricket@lemmy.zip)
  • Custom domains are handy when you don't care about blending in and you want to use a website that blacklists known domains of disposable/forwarding service providers, including the paid-tier domains.
  • Deciding whether to enable catch-all:
    • Enabled: You can make up new addresses without having to configure the alias manually each time, but it's also easier for spammers to guess valid addresses.
    • Disabled: It's more difficult for spammers to guess valid addresses, but you'll have to configure your aliases m

How do I remove a moderator with no posts in a community?

I asked to be added as a mod of !communitytv@lemmy.world some time ago - I have a user on another instance who was the mod before, @pruwybn@discuss.tchncs.de, but due to cross-instance moderation bugs I couldn't do any actual moderation.

In getting this user assigned it looks like my other user was removed and a user with a slightly different name was added - @pruwyben@discuss.tchncs.de. I think I created this user when I was first signing up, but had some issue & now don't seem to have the login info, and it isn't tied to my email address.

I was able to re-add the correct user (mainly to get the Moderator View) but I can't find a way to remove @pruwyben@discuss.tchncs.de as a mod there. I only see the add/remove mod options when viewing a post by the user, so I don't know if there's a way to do it for a user with no posts.

Thanks!

Is there a way to setup audio renderer (sink)

I use volumio but that's dedicated OS installation and it's limiting in the sense of what other things can be done.

I'm looking to setup streaming to HTPC. What r my options?

I found uPnP is not advised due to security risk, however I didn't see any other recommendation.

[EDIT] [UPDATE] now I understand why information was so lacking - because solution was just that simple. 😑

In gnome settings -> sharing -> enable media sharing.

Don't need extra app or setup.

Can I dirty-install "MicroG for LineageOS" ROM over regular LineageOS?

I have a Redmi Note 9 (merlinx) and currently have LineageOS 20 (which is the last official ROM). It's generally fine but I have some problems with a couple apps, so I need MicroG to fix this. I don't want to go bunch of hoops to install it on my current system if possible. Would dirty-installing the same ROM with MicroG pre-installed applicable? Or do I need a clean install if I want to go that way?

Edit: It seems it's not so feasible. I guess I'll just do clean install.

Own domain for Jellyfin and privacy concerns

Hi everyone,

Edit2: I bought a domain (1,50€ p.m.) from a European service which also offers dynDNS functionality. Just needed to adjust my NGINX config and generated new SSL-certificates via Certbot. I also built a script that only issues the update URL if the actually IP has changed. The system has been running flawlessy now for a couple of days already. No outages or any other connection issues. Learning: even though the dynDNS functionality should work stable in theory (since there is not much going on), the dynDNS service provider actually plays a big role in terms of reliability.

a couple of friends and I have a Jellyfin server running which is exposed to the internet via a reverse-proxy and https by using a free dynDNS provider.

The setup is working fine besides the dynDNS provider. We constantly face connection issues, making the dynamic DNS functionality very unreliable.

So I started looking into possible solutions and one particular would be to buy an own domain which wo

Is there a way to mount/unmount network drive as needed

I've 2 network drives on one subnet (nfs and samba). I would like to access them only if computer is connected to particular ssid (subnet).

I'm using gnome primarily. And files stops responding if mount points can't be accessed. There is no real way to recover from this apart from connecting to network, unmount and then change network.

I would like those drives to be accessed by system only if they are reachable.

[EDIT][UPDATE]: Following suggestions from comments. I've tried systemd and autofs methods both of them don't work the way I've setup access to mounts. If mount point is in home OR bookmarks in files app, it would hang up as soon as network is disconnected. It works well when mount points are not visible by default (for e.g. /smb/share1). Currently using autofs <- easy and short to setup with mount points under /smb and /nfs

Controller dongle on deck

So far I've gotten it to work in desktop mode, but booting to the regular gaming mode kills it.

It didn't work by simply installing via git as it does on my desktop computer. I've followed this video guide so far: https://youtu.be/YVPtVB0DWUg

But either my reading comprehension is failing me or I'm missing something because per the description and comments, the method still works as of last month.

But I noticed in the video that he mentions running a second command in the terminal and potentially having to change the Neptune number (the video was made for 65, but the deck is on 611 now) on that second command to reflect the current version number.

But he doesn't have the second command listed on that page he links to (https://monroeworld.com/steamdeck/xbox.html), and it's only partially visible for a moment on the video, so I don't know what that 2nd command does.

I was able to get the controller to pair just fine, navigate big picture mode with it, started a game, and was abl
