Upvotes and Downvotes don't appear from lemmy.ml
There was a recent update allowing for more options for viewing votes, which I believe has broken the app in this regard. When logging in from other instances tgat don't have these changes yet, it works as expected.

Sometimes when I'm replying to a comment, the reply will not get posted to the correct place in the thread... The few times this has happened, the reply ends up getting posted to the root/OP instead.
It will appear as though I'm replying to the correct comment while in the compose screen.

The following two posts fail to open in Sync but open normally when logged in from a browser

I was able to comment in these threads from my PC via the Alexandrite frontend, but attempting to view those comments via Sync displays "Could not load post" with an option to Retry, which does not succeed.
Post 1 appears visible when opening the community, but opening the post displays the same error. Post 2 (the sh.itjust.works link which is posted on a lemmy.world community) the post does not appear in the community at all in Sync.
Confirmed that these communities/users are not blocked on my account, and no filters set within the app should apply to these posts either.

Is it possible to group favourited communities or users into a single feed?
Per this thread, I'm wondering if it might be possible to create feeds of favourited people or communities.
I guess this would be similar to how multireddits worked and since that's not available on Lemmy, this might not be either. But maybe some smart person out there knows of a way.
It's not even me that wants to do it, but I'm invested in an answer now! :-)
Are user tags lost if you let your subscription lapse and later resub?
Given the issue viewing local community comments I'm sadly considering seeing how other apps have matured since I started using Sync. If I stop my sub, but then it gets fixed and I want to come back, will I lose my user tags, etc? Has anyone tried?
(also, Lj, if you see this it's nothing personal, still the best designed app)
Cannot view comments on local communities
Anyone else experiencing this? I can* view the posts fine but any post to a community on my instance will not show comments (despite a comment count).
viewing instance remotely and tapping an unknown community name led to the incorrect community
Scenario (steps to reproduce)**
- View instance list from the main page
- Select a smaller instance with communities that may not be federated
- Look at the list of most recent posts
- Tap the community name of a post from the list (this is only possible if you have this setting enabled: Settings shortcut: Link handling > Tap communities to open
- See if it takes you to correct community
Result(s)
Some results lead to entirely different communities.

Sync doing rather badly on formating check (placed 18 out of 20!)
The linked post essentially performed a benchmark of lemmy apps and if they properly display the formating options available. Sync got 3rd last place, position 18 out of 20 apps, with a score of 6.9 out of 10. There's a comment that essentially contains the test set. I hope we get some fixes, cause some of the problems have been around for a while.
In my personal experience the issues with spoiler tags, and some of the embedded images and their sizes is rather annoying. For example this comment shows perfectly fine on desktop, but becomes a garbled mess on sync (as you can tell by my comment, blaming the bot). Also note that while sync technically gets 3/3 for the images, the last image should be text-sized between the "arrows". It isn't, it's just huge (and consequently a pixelated mess).

Images not showing in body
Not sure if it's just me but I've noticed I've never seen any images in the body of a post on sync, though I have on a browser. I assumed in the past the user just forgot to add images but I now found a button to open them. Are they meant to be embedded in the large empty space?
Just incase this issue is widespread and nobody can see, Il note that I have attached 3 images showing the issue.

cannot view a specific community in app
Can anyone try going to !newbrunswick@lemmy.ca and let me know if it works? It won't load for me and I tried on an account on that instance and still nothing.
Edit: maybe it's a fluke, or maybe it's a Samsung thing somehow?

Am I just missing where this is? I can't seem to get the export to write to a Nextcloud folder so I was going to change it but can't figure out where to do it.
wrong image loading in comment with multiple embedded images
So I have a bottle similar to this one, and I wish for a small snack container that opens in a similar way. Sync users, in my comment linked above when you tap the second image does it pull up the right one? For me it's about 50/50 whether it will.
This is a bug I noticed a while ago but didn't have any reference examples until now.

That's what I see in the app store. Settings shortcut: Everything else > Sync for Lemmy shows v24.03.26-14:56 (122).
My up votes and downvotes have disappeared. I was able to briefly see them again after clearing sync app cache and storage but the bug (if it is a bug) returned right away after login.

So sync is pulling the image from the page, since its not a direct link to the image itself voyager goes to the page.

Lemmy is connected software and entry-point you signed up at is lemmy.world. Therefore you should go to them for support.
That happens for me for any link that can't be handled in Voyager, but I think when it comes to images the thumbnail doesnt load either....
Out of curiosity, is it maybe your instance and how its caching? Have you tried other instances? Let me grab a random post that works for me as an example.

Sync is falling way out of spec with lemmy at this point due to the lack of updates. See this thread for more info. The dev said he "hoped to update over the holidays" when someone reached out, but he hasent done so.
I've swapped over to summit, a FOSS app that is deeply customizable, has great gesture support, and is actively being supported. A lot of my sync issues like the above disappeared.
I highly recommend it.
The median wage for a programmer in the US is right at 100k. 1-2k/month is 12-24k/yr.
I cant think of a single person who thinks 12-24% of their yearly salary is "pennies."
Either way, those "pennies" came with a commitment. He could have done a low one time cost like sync for reddit and faffed about, but instead he committed to subscription payments, and those carry an expectation of support and features. As a programmer, he know this.
The simple fact is that people are paying for something they aren't getting.
Yes sad that @ljdawson@lemmy.world have been inactive for so long, and without him support Sync I am afraid Sync will die.
Wonder what the reasoning behind that is. Some of the takes people (devs and users) have had on Lemmy design decisions have been frankly a bit weird too – like when someone requested instance blocking so they could block Lemmygrad:
Nutomic: Would it be an option for you to switch to another instance which blocks lemmygrad.ml? For example https://sopuli.xyz/ or https://beehaw.org/
dessalines: This may be a non-issue, because I've added an easy way to block communities from that community page in the next release (you could already block them by going into your user settings). So you could just block communities from instances you'd rather not see, as they show up in your feed.
I kind of agree with nutomic tho, that if you don't want to see communism in your feed, you're better off signing up for an explicitly anti-communist instance.
And someone suggested instance blocks be logged and reported to admins:

I also tried the translate feature and it didn't work either. Tbh I paid for Ultra just to remove the ads, but this is pretty disappointing.
The function does exist, just a bit buried (and with different names?)
From a post, press the 3-dot Menu button, press Copy, and then Copy Username.
From a comment, tap the comment to reveal the comment actions, press the 3-dot Menu button, press Copy, and then press the Copy Permalink button that has an icon of a person next to it (I am assuming that is supposed to read as Copy Username like the option from the post)
Doesn't seem to be any convenient way to copy links for communities though, neither from a post nor from the community page itself. At least none that I can find quickly.
It is a couple extra presses, but when I receive an inbox message and press it to view the parent comment thread, there is usually a little toast button on the bottom of the screen to view all comments. Do you see that when you click a reply in your inbox?
