To Federate or not to Federate: is this the Fediverse’s Don’t be Evil-Moment or its own Liberation through transfiguration? And why is the current political Left in wide parts unable to answer this…

YouTube frontend with algorithm?
I’ve been using invidious for a few years. I recently changed up my morning routine and have been eating breakfast watching YouTube via the TV app versus on my PC.
It made me realize I kind of miss the recommended videos in some circumstances like when I just wanna veg out.
Are there any current viable yt front ends that either maintain the algorithm or utilize their own to find you new content?
Font fingerprinting -- even tor browser is vulnerable!?
I've just been playing around with https://browserleaks.com/fonts . It seems no web browser provides adequate protection for this method of fingerprinting -- in both brave and librewolf the tool detects rather unique fonts that I have installed on my system, such as "IBM Plex" and "UD Digi Kyokasho" -- almost certainly a unique fingerprint. Tor browser does slightly better as it does not divulge these "weird" fonts. However, it still reveals that the google Noto fonts are installed, which is by far not universal -- on a different machine, where no Noto fonts are installed, the tool does not report them.
For extra context: I've tested under Linux with native tor browser and flatpak'd Brave and Librewolf.
What can we do to protect ourselves from this method of fingerprinting? And why are all of these privacy-focused browsers vulnerable to it? Is work being done to mitigate this?
Privacy and the digital euro
Some talk about the privacy of the digital euro has been made. Some people said that your transactions are going to be tracked. Should an european worry about it? Would GNU Taler be a possible solution?
And it's not like the digital euro is some dream, it will become reality soon.
For a Universal Declaration on Fediverse Rights, or: At the Core of the Threads-Debate lies a deeper problem: how can the Fediverse grow without losing its soul in the process?

I see no reason why, after the Fediverse has found a solid moral ground, it shouldn’t put this up to the test against Meta and try to win over some terretory with it. Actually, it seems like the most sensible thing to do. Because we want to bring these digital rights to as many people as possible, and for that, we need to partially federate with Meta.
Feeling stuck and don't know what to do.
Hi privacy community. I genuinely want to hear from both people who are very private and those who didn't go to such an extent.
I started my journy since high school and replaced a lot of stuff since then.
Ditched most of Google's app . Only 2~3 apps on my phone require google play store(Banking/School's app/ Train ticket).
Switched to Protonmail + Email alias, and manage my passwords with Bitwarden.
Got off social media and made sure I removed all data that can be found about me in quick Google searches.
Switched to Linux for desktop.
But
I can't get rid of gmail because I still need those apps, and some professors heavily relies on google services.
Windows ain't getting off my laptop because I need to make sure document format and software compatibility don't become reasons I fail a class.
I feel like the obstacle I hit isn't just convenience anymore, it's my life and the situations I'm in.
I wish to hear what kind of dicisions / realizations / minds
Securely Passing Host VPN to KVM?
I've attempted to create a VM on my ubuntu host machine that is accessing the internet via a dedicated VPN app. I'm able to disconnect my host VPN and access the web within the VM, but cannot access the web when the host VPN is enabled. Ideally I'd like to enable the VPN on the host and pass through web access to the VM.
I have two questions:
- If my use case is to use a VM to increase privacy and security as well as isolate my operations within the VM from my host, is it better to have the VPN app from inside the VM or pass the host's through to the VM?
- If it doesn't make much of a difference, how can I go about passing the host's VPN to the VM?
In either scenario, I'd still like to keep the host's VPN active while being able to use the VM, which I currently cannot.
firefox based browsers ETP
ETP - Enhanced Tracking Protection
- Any difference between ETP on strict mode, or custom mode with all options turned on?
- If i use custom mode with tracking content disabled and the other options enabled, and rely on my hosts file to block ads, am i good?
Android Auto/Carplay (or alternative) with Degoogled phone?
I've been using GrapheneOS for over 2 years now. Love it. I cannot help but feel I'm missing out when i go on a road trip and have to constantly glance at my phone (OsmAnd~), instead of using the perfectly good display built into my vehicle.
Any good alternatives? I've considered using an old phone, or recently I've seen Android "AI Boxes". Both connect to the internet through bluetooth/hotspot on your phone. Not sure of the privacy implications or amount of Google in both.
Not looking for 3rd party screens or phone mounts as options.
How to quit closed-source platforms?
This is a question I am wondering. I try to avoid as much as I can platforms like YouTube, Discord, Whatsapp, Zoom, etc. But I just can't! For YouTube I love the content to much to quit it. I actually uses Invidio.us and NewPipe to avoid this problem. I just need to import my subscriptions.
Then you got the case of some social medias where it doesn't depends on you. For example I need to use Whatsapp for school even if I hate it, same for Zoom.
I also got friends and communities that are only on Discord.
Do you already had these issues? How are you dealing with them?
Thanks in advance!
