Mystery OPM server that aided buyout offers prompts House Democrat probe

@politics Mystery OPM server that aided buyout offers prompts House Democrat probe

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5125573-opm-server-installation-controversy/

AI Summary (Testing out):

\> House Oversight Democrats are demanding answers about a "server of unknown nature and origin" installed at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) that was used for sending buyout offers to federal employees. They are also questioning how OPM was able to assemble a list of employees, which appears to be done from cobbling together existing email lists and datasets. Democrats argue that this process could have violated laws dictating how the agency must plan for using databases with personally identifiable information. The letter also mentions a suit under the E-Government Act of 2002 and raises concerns about the security of federal workers. OPM did not immediately respond to request for comment.

"Ellerman has for years made an argument as startling as it is hard to refute: “the labor theory of property.” It’s that employees should own the firms they work for because of very simple logic: If they’re responsible for the consequences of their actions while on the job — committing a crime, say — how can it be that they’re not responsible for the positive things they do?"

"...X also submitted rebuttal arguments, explaining why its online social networking service should not, in its view, qualify as an important gateway between businesses and consumers, even if X is deemed to meet the quantitative thresholds set out in the DMA."

"..the Commission concluded that X does indeed not qualify as a gatekeeper in relation to its online social networking service.."

Not knowing US constitutional law, it seems to me the SCOTUS decision might mean that the Dems missed an opportunity when they had the house

Not knowing US constitutional law, it seems to me the SCOTUS decision might mean that the Dems missed an opportunity when they had the house

That it’s a federal matter seems legally predictable/natural to me, and that it then falls to congress to enforce then also seems natural.

What am I missing on that?

Otherwise, what would the Dems have had to lose by passing an act when they had the house? The 14th was right there.

Furthermore, the Council proposes that the legitimate use of surveillance and in particular of spyware be extended to dozens of other crimes, including minor crimes such as copyright infringements. > > > > Among the countries promoting this pejorative draft we find Germany and France - countries producing Spyware technology - but also Greece, a country where surveillance abuses against journalists have become a topic of national relevance. > > > >
