First tab icon tap should jump to the top
The biggest feature I notice missing in almost all Lemmy apps, is jumping to the top on the first tap of the tab icon of the view you’re in.
E.g. you’ve scrolled down a bit while in the Posts tab, then you tap the Posts icon, in Apollo, it would jump to the top of the list view in Posts, then second tap would take you to the communities subscribed slideout view.
Would love to see both the first and second tap functionality added to the tab icons as it’s a great quality of life feature IMO.
Expanded search functionality
Apologies if this was already asked and answered. I looked through the list but didn’t see anything so I’m sharing info based on my experience so far.
Loving Mlem in general (working great on iPhone 12), but search is still a bit of a hindrance. Right now, the search function seems to be limited to searching for communities only. (Unless I’ve missed something?)
I would love having the ability to search for topics/keywords as well, especially as someone relatively new to the fediverse. It can be a bit difficult to discover communities if you have to already know their names, especially in cases where communities use names that aren’t necessarily intuitive or indicative of their content focus.
I’ve had a few experiences using Mlem where I search for something but no relevant communities pop up in the results - but if I use lemmy on desktop to search the same string I can see several posts with that topic/keyword across multiple communities, making it easier to identify potential communities that I might want to follow & contribute to.
Again, thanks for the work you do & love the app so far. It’s made Lemmy way easier and more fun to use for this humble reddit refugee. ❤️
Community Grouping (see Bean app) - a la Multireddits
Would love a way to group communities I find similar, that was I can view the group and get all the posts about a topic from multiple communities over many instances. Bean app has this feature. Think multireddits for a Reddit comparison.
- Add text select tool, and system translate service
Please add select text tool for main post and comments. If I can select text, when I can use translate service from iOS. Thanks for good app!
combine communities
I’m constantly running into multiple groups that address the same subject. It would be nice if I could combine those so I saw all the posts in one place. For example, all the forums that are discussing UAPs it would be cool to just look at a single thing that combined them all.
Add options for Post Compact View?
Thank you so much for Mlem! This app is soothing my Apollo withdrawals, along with Lemmy in general.
Wondering if an option to show the submitting user (submitter) in the Compact View Post listing might be considered?
Perhaps along with an option to remove community instance name if needed to save space for showing the submitter above?
Move away from a monolithic backend
Love the native swift app as well as the Apollo-like look and feel. However, I still feel that a lot of these lemmy apps (including this one), still seem modeled on a monolithic backend. Which isn't the case with the fediverse.
For example, if a kbin or lemmy.world instance is down then I get a singular networking error ("Error sending request, please check your internet"; or something like that). If there was a way to show an instance as offline and gracefully communicate that to the user, that would improve the experience quite a bit!
And its also difficult to check which community I should check more often then others. For example, I'm subscribed to at least two games communities. But one has 51 people online with 1200 posts and the other has 250 online with 460 posts. Checking whose online is probably not the best way to gauge community health, but Memmy does that and its better then nothing. "Nothing" being the word for what it is right now.
So it would be nice to move the UI away from a monolithic reddit like client and more into a fediverse multi-serviced backend. Starting with these two issues I've noticed.
Compact mode for comments
I feel that comment section has too much excess space even with user logos, etc disabled. Compact mode for posts is perfect. I would love to have the same for comments.
For comparison on my iPhone mini screen, 7 comments on Voyager fits in the space that 4 comments on Mlem does
