In the US, mostly because of the associations with prostitutes made by American soldiers in Europe during WWII. They were frequently called "removed's baths". Personally, I love mine and hate having to use a toilet without one.

In Belgium toilets are in their own room, smaller than a super small storage room, with just the toilet, and they don’t have bidets; I call them ghettoilet
