Nah its scars of not doing anything to fight the bad guys and just "carrying on" until the fucming mold just keeps on growing.
Eastern Germany is like the US South in that regard.

Edit: I guess Bavaria is analogous to Texas more than the mid or deep south.
Having spent a ton of time in Bavaria, yeah, it's closer to Texas or the Midwest than the South.
It's not the scars of reunification. The same trend happens in France, Italy or Spain. It's the European neoliberal capitalist austerity model.
